Late on August 16, the Houthis announced that they had launched several Qasef-2K suicide unmanned aerial vehicles at Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia.

According to Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesperson for the Yemeni group, the suicide UAVs struck “sensitive military targets” inside the Saudi airport.

“The operations of the UAV force resulted in the suspension of aerial aviation in the airport,” Brig. Gen. Sari said.

The spokesman added that the attack was a response to the Saudi-led coalition’s airstrikes and siege on Houthi-held areas, calling on all companies and civilians to stay away from airports and military sites in Saudi Arabia.

From its side, the Saudi-led coalition announced that its air-defense systems had intercepted a Houthi UAV, which was launched from the northern Yemeni province of ‘Amran. Other UAVs may have hit their targets.

In the last two months, Abha International airport was targeted dozens of times with UAVs and even with a cruise missile. The Houthis’ repeated attacks turned the airport into a war-zone.
