Houthis Announce Attacks On Three Israeli, U.S. Merchant Ships

The Houthis (Ansar Allah) announced on July 9 that they had attacked three ships owned by the United States and Israel in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden in response to the ongoing war on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip and recent American-British strikes on Yemen.

“The American ship Maersk Sentosa was targeted in the Arabian Sea by the naval forces and the missile force in a joint operation with a number of ballistic and winged missiles,” Houthi military spokesman, Brigade General Yahya Sarea, said in a statement. “The hit was direct and accurate, thanks to God.”

The spokesman also said that the Houthis attacked another ship in the Arabian Sea, the Marthopolis, with a number of drones.

“The operation was carried out by the drone force, and the hit was accurate, thanks to God,” he said, noting that the ship was targeted because it is owned by a company that violated the Houthis’ decision to ban entry to all Israeli ports.

The third ship, the Israeli-owned MSC Patnaree, was attacked in the Gulf of Aden with a number of drones, the spokesman said, adding that “the operation was carried out by the drone force and achieved its goal successfully.”

Brig. Gen. Sarea also warned in the statement that “the operations of the Yemeni armed forces will not stop unless the aggression is stopped and the siege imposed on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is lifted.”

On July 10, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement that its forces destroyed a drone in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen during the past 24 hours. The command didn’t however provide any details on the results of the Houthis’s recent attacks.

The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea since November in response to the Israeli war and siege on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the group launched dozens of drones and missiles at the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat and shot down six American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.

The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January in response to these attacks. However, the military campaign failed to deter the Houthis or even to degrade their military capabilities.

see the saudis started messing with the return of yemeni pilgrims. the houthis gave the saudis an oblique message ” 3 days “. but the saudis understood and backed down. the us hegemon is unravelling. looks like the houthis are the known unknown unknowns in the whole mix.
