Two southern Saudi airports were attacked by suicide unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) launched by the Houthis in the late hours of June 23.
According to al-Masirah, several Qasef-2K UAV struck the military sections of Abha and Jizan airports. The UAVs targeted warplanes shelters and other military facilities.
“Our operations will continue, it will become harder on the enemy in the upcoming few days, if it continues to escalate [the situation in Yemen],” the Yemeni channel quoted Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesman for the Houthis, as saying.
The Saudi media, including al-Arabiya, confirmed that at least one UAV struck Abha airport, killing a Syrian citizen and injuring at least 8 other people. Meanwhile, local sources said that Abha and Jizan airport were both put out of service as a result of the attacks.
In the last two weeks, the Houthis targets several Saudi airports. The Yemeni group’s strikes caused measurable damage and interrupted aerial aviation in the Kingdom’s southern region.
The Saudi-led coalition’s failure to put an end to these repeated strikes is a testimony to the Houthis’ growing offensive capabilities. The Yemeni resistance is operating precision guided-rockets, suicide UAVs and even cruise missiles with a high-level of efficiency that can’t be found in some well-funded armies.
