On February 2, Houthi fighters conducted a hit and run attack on several positions of the Saudi-led coalition around the al-Khadhra land port on the Saudi-Yemeni border, according to the Houthis media wing.
Several Yemeni fighters loyal to Saudi-backed President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi were killed and at least three vehicles of the Saudi-led collation were destroyed in the attack.
Houthi fighters repelled two attacks of pro-Hadi forces and the Saudi-led coalition on their positions in the areas of Suqut, Beir Basha and Usyfirah in the southwestern province of Taiz, according to the Yemeni al-Masirah TV. The media outlet added that the Houthis had killed and injured several pro-Hadi fighters.
However, pro-Hadi forces backed by the Saudi-led coalition were able to advance around the provincial capital, the city of Tazi, and captured the Naqil al-Sulu area, according to the UAE-base al-Arabiya TV. Naqil al-Sulu is a key position because it is located on the highway that links the provinces of Taiz, Lahij and Aden.
The Saudi-led coalition and pro-Hadi forces launched a military operation to break the Houthis siege on the city of Taiz on January 25. However, the coalition has made very few gains likely due to the internal crisis in the southern city of Aden that erupted on January 28.
