On November 29, the media wing of the Houthis released a video showing Houthi fighters destroying two military vehicles of the Saudi military in the Kingdom’s southern province of Jizan with Iranian Toophan anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs).
This was the first time this Iranian weapon was seen in the Yemeni battlefield.
According to experts, the Toophan is the Iranian copy of the US-made TOW ATGM system. Some variants of the Toophan ATGM have a range of more than 3.5km and can overcome reactive armour then penetrate 900mm of rolled homogeneous armour (RHA). Just like the TOW, the Toophan is guided by semi-automatic command to line of sight (SACLOS).
While this is the first time the Toophan is documented in the hands of the Houthis, the Saudi-led coalition foiled an attempt by Iranian intelligence to smuggle missiles of this type to the Yemeni group three years ago.

In the last few months, the Houthis destroyed dozens of vehicles of the Saudi-led coalition throughout Yemen and in southern Saudi Arabia, which indicates that Iran has stepped up its ATGM supplies to the Yemeni group. This will likely create more tensions between Riyadh and Tehran.

Now, with this post, clearly all the kit is being battlefield tested before deployment. It may even turn up in Lebanon with Hezbullah. Whilst S300 is still up in Syria now would be a good time to run a few hundred units over to that side of the sand, along a few other suprises.
Quick question. There has been ongoing conflict between Shia and Sunnis in Pakistan for a number of years. Hatred of the Shia has been an integral part of some radical Sunni ideologies, including parts of the Taliban and Al Qaeda, both of which have influence in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Wouldn’t the Iranians be understandably worried about handing out advanced weapons to these groups? I wouldn’t trust the promises of any of the insurgents in Afghanistan that these weapons wouldn’t be used against the Iranians, even if they are sincerely made when the weapons are given. It’s just too volatile a place. I’m really not sure that empowering the Afghan insurgents is really in Iranian interest and I think the Iranians are smart enough to know that.

Iran has consistently denied weapons deliveries to Ansar Allah, and I seriously doubt this footage is genuine. Furthermore there is no way you can tell the weapon is Iranian apart from the claim. The picture actually looks like those taken during the SAA campaign in northern Latakia back in 2015, with the Houthi chant put in the voice band. All in all, this looks like an anti-Iranian propaganda piece, and I wonder why Southfront chose to publish it.
