Alongside fighting against the Saudi-led coalition, Ansar Allah also got around to passing judgment.
Nine suspects in the killing of Saleh al-Sammad, the Houthi (as Ansar Allah are known) civilian leader back then, were executed.
Al-Sammad was killed by a Saudi Arabia-led coalition air attack in the port city of al-Hudaydah on Yemen’s west coast in 2018.
A total of 17 suspects were convicted of spying for Saudi Arabia in relation to the killing with these 9 being executed by firing squad.
Seven other people – including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and former US President Donald Trump – were tried in absentia by the court and also sentenced to death.
This took place on the heels of a reportedly successful Houthi operation that includes heavy drone and missile activity targeting various Saudi-led coalition positions both in Yemen and the Kingdom.
As a result of the operation, Ansar Allah announced that they had “liberated” more than 1,600 square kilometers in the central Yemeni province of Ma’rib.
The operation, codenamed “Great Strength,” saw the Houthis and their allies imposing control over the districts of Medghal and Majzar.
The Mass military camp also fell into the Houthi hands. The camp was one of the Saudi-led coalition main bases in Ma’rib. It was allegedly used to house al-Qaeda and ISIS terrorists.
The operation boasted impressive numbers, the Houthi Missile Forces carried out a total of 161 attacks, with the majority being inside Yemen.
Additionally, the Air Force conducted 319 drone attacks, with most of them targeting positions inside Saudi Arabia.
If the missiles in Ansar Allah’s possession were longer-ranged they too would likely target more positions in the Kingdom.
The Houthi spokesman boasted incredible numbers of casualties, claiming that 3,000 Saudi-backed fighters were killed, 12,400 others were wounded and 550 were captured. Furthermore, 1,500 vehicles of Saudi-backed forces were rather destroyed, burned or damaged.
Naturally, the Saudis did not sit idly and throughout the operation carried out nearly 3,300 airstrikes. The Riyadh-led forces carry out hundreds of ceasefire violations in al-Hudaydah every single day, while conducting dozens of airstrikes. This effort evidently achieves little in hampering the Houthi advances.
The Houthi success in Yemen’s central province is significant. The bulk of the heavily populated part of the country has been “liberated” by Ansar Allah.
That progress could become even more significant depending on how fruitful Iran’s upcoming nuclear deal negotiations turn out to be and the scope of the support it can provide to its allies.
Why quotations on Liberated, sf? It is liberated indeed.
The Houthis are a God (swt) send.
