UPDATE: Saudi sources claim that four missiles were intercepted.
On April 28, Yemen’s Houthis launched at least 8 Badr-1 ballistic missiles at “economic and vital targets” in the southwestern Saudi province of Jizan, according to the pro-Houthis al-Masirah television network.
Al-Masirah added that all the missiles had hit their targets. However, no details were provided on on the exact locations of the targets and the possible casualties and the extent of damage caused.
The Houthis has recently vowed to avenge the killing of one of their top leaders, Saleh al-Samad, in a Saudi airstrike last week. The April 28 missile strike may be considered as one of the actions carried out in response to the death of Saleh al-Samad.
On April 23, the Houthis launched two Badr 1-type ballistic missiles at oil facilities belong to Saudi Arabia’s energy giant Aramco in Jizan. The missile strike followed Saudi-led coalition strikes on a wedding ceremony in Yemen’s Hajjah on April 22. These strikes killed about 30-40 civilians, including women and children.

Saddam’s Scuds were utter shite though. As terrible at hitting their targets as the defending Patriots were at bringing them down. They only served a political purpose for Saddam to hit Israel with to bring them into the war in the hope that it would make the US/Arab coalition fall apart. I doubt that the Houthis have made them that much more efficient at actually hitting a target. It’s just about the symbolic act of hitting anything inside Saudi Arabia.

That is precisely what the attack on Yemen is about – partly. Israeli subs from Red Sea have to pass a hostile strait, and they can’t stand it. They want to be able to use a sea launched missile attack against Iran. But the Houthis still control the strait of al Bab enough to cause problems. Unless the Saudis win quickly the future doesn’t look that good either, for the Israelis that is.
Until 1967, UK held Perim island in the strait for over 100 years, Like they have done with Gibraltar. In 1973 Yemeni forces with Egyptian aid enforced a blockade on Israeli shipping there. NATO’s control of Djibouti would complicate anti-submarine warfare, but missiles would definitely close the strait to surface traffic.
