Houthis Launch “Ballistic Missile” At Oil Depot In Saudi Arabia, Patriot System Intercepts It (Video)

On April 4, the Yemeni Missiles Force [loyal to the Houthis] announced that it had targeted a key oil storage facility of the Saudi Aramco oil company in the Saudi southern province of Jizan with a Badir-1 “ballistic missile”.

Badir-1, that was first revealed on March 22, is in fact a locally-made copy of the Iranian-made solid fuel artillery rocket, Fajir-3. The Yemeni Missiles Force claims that Badir-1 is very accurate and its speed is up to 4,5 Mach.

Meanwhile, the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV reported that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Force (RSADF) had successfully intercepted the Yemeni rocket with its Patriot surface-to-air missile systems over Jizan province. A video released by locals from Jizan proved al-Arabiya’s claim.

The Houthis appear to be targeting the oil facilities of the Saudi Aramco company on almost a weekly basis, as they conducted similar rocket attacks on March 22 and 29. These rocket attacks are likely aimed at deterring the Saudi-led coalition, which expanded its aerial operations over Yemen since the beginning of 2018.

Armaco is nice target :)

BL

That’s not an interception, that’s a Patriotard missile self exploding. There’s no confirmed interception unless you can visually see the light from both the intercepting missile as well as the incoming missile.

Sinbad2

But in Ameritalk an interception is when a patriot detonates in the vicinity of the target. Even if the incoming missile continues on to its target and detonates, the US and I guess their Saudi minions call it a hit. Don’t believe me? You can look it up if you search on Patriot interception rates. Mostly they miss.

testera

It all boils down to how close “vicinity of the target” actually is :).

testera

Incoming missile/rocket does not use its engine throughout the whole flight. There is no light from it unless they try interception near launch point.

BL

Not true, watch this video to see the light from the incoming missile and the Patriotard missile failing miserable:

regardless of whether or not you can see the light, there’s no point in posting a video where you can’t visually confirm an interception since it could easily be fake.

testera

What do you mean “not true”. That is basic stuff. You could at least check first two sentences at Wikipedia before correcting me ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballistic_missile ).

Both videos (yours, and the one above) show nothing more than expensive fireworks. They aren’t posted to confirm/deny interception, but for getting-views/propaganda reasons.

BL

WTF! I just posted a video proof of my statement, you then deny the video proof and point me to some article? I just said I can visually see with my own eyes the light from the incoming missile. What’s so complicated about what I said?

testera

Why don’t you try making some effort in reading before responding (it’s basic stuff, not “some article”). Ballistic missile/rocket does not use its engine throughout the whole flight. That means that you can’t always see it. You can make succesfull interception with or without seing missile, you can also miss with or without seing missile. If you “can visually see with your own eyes the light from the incoming missile” in one case, that does not mean you will be able to do so in all cases.

Sinbad2

A patriot costs about $4 mil, and it seems they fired 2, so $8 mil to shoot down an artillery rocket. I don’t know the cost of the actual projectile, but you can by the whole system, launcher truck and projectiles for $4 mil. Way to go guys, just keep firing cheap rockets, even if you don’t hit anything, you will eventually bankrupt the Saudis.

good insight. thanks for sharing.

How does this video “prove” the missile was shot down? Only thing proven is that a firework blew up in the sky!

VGA

They should be targetting barracks, trying to cause dozens of casualties. Not targets that are protected by Patriot systems.
