A spokesman for the Houthis announced in the early hours of August 29 that the Yemen group had launched a Quds-1 cruise missile at Abha International Airport in southern Saudi Arabia.
The spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, said that the missile targeted a military operations room in the airport, claiming that it was struck with “high accuracy.”
“The missile strike on Abha International Airport crippled aerial aviation in the airport,” the spokesman said, promising more attacks as long as the “aggression and siege” on Yemen continue.
The Saudi-led coalition acknowledged that the attack was successful a few minutes after the Houthis’ announcement. In a short statement, the coalition confirmed that a projectile struck Abha International Airport. No one was reportedly injured or killed.
The Houthis showcased the Quds-1 cruise missile for the first time during the Martyr Saleh al-Samad Exhibition, last July. However, the missile was first used on June 12 in a successful attack on Abha International Airport.
This was the second attack on Saudi Arabia in the last 12 hours. Earlier, the Houthis launched several suicide UAVs at military positions in the Saudi provinces of Najran and Jizan.
