The Houthis (Ansar Allah) carried out a drone attack against Israel on April 21, just hours after a violent wave of United States strikes hit Yemen causing casualties.

In a statement, Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said that the group launched a Yafa suicide drone at what it described as a “vital target” near the city of Ashkelon and a Samad-1 suicide drone at a “military target” close to the city of Eilat.

The attack was carried out “in support of the oppressed Palestinian people and in rejection of the genocide being committed by the Israeli enemy, with American support, against our brothers in Gaza,” the spokesman noted.

Both Ashkelon and Eilat are located in southern Israel. There were no reports of warning sirens, interceptions or blasts in neither, which indicate that the drones failed to reach their target.

The Yafa and the smaller Samad-1 are thought to be versions of an Iranian suicide drone codenamed by the United States military and intelligence as KAS-04. They both have an estimated range of around 2,000 kilometers.

Brig. Gen. Saree announced in the same statement that the Houthis had also launched two cruise missiles and suicide drones at the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and targeted the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson with three cruise missiles and four suicide drones.

The two attacks were carried out in response to “American escalation” against Yemen, and recent “massacres” in the country, according to the spokesman.

Overnight, 12 people were killed and 30 others injured when a series of U..S strikes hit different parts of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

The strikes targeted the area of Attan and a sanitation project in the Asir area, the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV reported, adding that the Furwah neighborhood and a popular market in the Shoub district were also targeted.

Other strikes targeted the Red Sea island of Kamaran off the coast of the western province of al-Hodeidah and the district of Jubah in the central province of Ma’rib, according to the news channel. However, there were no reports of any casualties there.

The U.S. military resumed strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on March 15 on orders from President Donald Trump, who said that the large-scale operation was launched in response to the group’s renewed attacks on Israel-affiliated shipping in the Red Sea.

So far, the operation has claimed the lives of more than 200 people, but failed to degrade the military capabilities of the Houthis.
