In an official statement, the ministry accused “the treacherous hands affiliated with the U.S.-Israeli aggression and its tools” of killing Ibrahim Badreddin al-Houthi, vowing to apprehend the assailants.

“[The ministry] will not hesitate and will spare no effort in pursuing, apprehending the tools of criminal aggression that carried out the assassination of the martyr Ibrahim al-Houthi and bringing them to justice so that they will receive their deterrent penalty,” the statement reads.

Yemeni sources claim that Ibrahim al-Houthi played a role in the Houthis’ 2015 Sanaa attack, which provoked the Saudi-led intervention.

Al-Arabia, a Saudi-affiliated news channel based in the UAE, said that Ibrahim al-Houthi and eight of his bodyguards were killed three days ago in Sanaa. These claims are yet to be verified.

Last year, a drone strike orchestrated by the Saudi-led coalition claimed the life of Saleh Ali al-Sammad, president of the Houthis Supreme Political Council. Back then, the Houthis responded with a large-scale missile strike on Saudi Arabia.
