On June 26, the Saudi-led coalition intercepted several ballistic missiles and suicide drones which were launched from Yemen by the Houthis (Ansar Allah).
According to the coalition, a total of four drones were intercepted over Saudi Arabia’s southern region. At least two of the drones were on their way to attack targets in the cities of Najran and Khamis Mushait.
The coalition’s air-defenses also intercepted two ballistic missiles. One of the missiles was on its way to Najran, while the other was heading to Khamis Mushait.
“Hostile attempts by the [Houthis] militia to target civilian objects and civilians were repelled and destroyed,” the Saudi-led coalition said in a statement.
Usually, suicide drones are intercepted by warplanes of the Royal Saudi Air Force with air-to-air missiles. Ballistic missiles, however, are usually intercepted with MIM-104 Patriot surface-to-air missile systems deployed by the coalition or its allies, like the US.
The Houthis have not commented on the Saudi-led coalition’s claims, yet. The group keeps some of its attack on the Kingdom a secret, or announces them days later.
Recently, the Houthis stepped up their attacks on Saudi Arabia. Dozens of drones were launched at the Kingdom and its proxies in Yemen this month.
Last week, a total of 20 Houthi drones were intercepted by the Saudi-led coalition. More were launched in the last few days. In a recent attack on a military camp of the coalition the Yemeni group used ten suicide drones.
Cuddos to the arms smugglers that make the victory possible! Houthis are the heroes everyone can see, the smuglers are hidden superheroes.
Both a psychological way for Houthi’s to bring Yemeni war into KSA, and real world test program for Yemeni operated missiles and drones to experiment against the US supplied KSA Patriot systems.
