On January 29, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) announced that their fighters had carried out a large-scale operation in the northern Yemeni region of al-Ajashir which is located on the border with Saudi Arabia’s Najran.
During the operation, the Houthis captured 163rd kilometers of al-Ajashir from Saudi-backed forces. The areas seized by the group’s fighters include Tabab al-Raba’, Taiba al-Asm camp, Tabab Qadamil, al-Qahira, Ramlet al-Sawda and the Amhor Mountains.
The Houthis’ Military Media released a video documenting the operation. The 14-minute video shows Houthi fighters clashing with Saudi-backed forces, destroying several military vehicles and storming a number of positions.
Last December, the Houthis captured the strategic area of al-Yatemah, which is located to the south of al-Ajashir, after a large-scale operation that was codenamed Desert Dawn.
The Houthis appear to be planning to escalate their operations on the border with Saudi Arabia, likely to disturb the Saudi-led coalition’s operations in central Yemen. This tactic worked well for the Yemeni group in the past.
