On January 19, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) repelled yet another attack by Saudi and United Arab Emirates (UAE)-backed forces in the Yemeni provinces of Shabwah and Ma’rib.
Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesman for the group, said in a statement that the forces, who were led by the UAE-backed Giants Brigades, failed to advance in the district of Ain in Shabwah and the district of Harib in Ma’rib despite receiving close air support from Saudi-led coalition warplanes.
“Losses were inflicted on the enemy’s personnel and equipment, where more than 50 [fighters] were killed or wounded, a number of armors and vehicles were also destroyed,” Brig. Gen. Sari said.
The spokesman also revealed that the Houthis had fired two ballistic missiles at Saudi and UAE-backed forces in Ain and Harib. Many fighters were allegedly killed or wounded.
The Houthis repelled two attacks led by the Giants Brigades on their remaining positions in Ain and Harib on January 12 and 14.
In the first third of January, the Giants Brigades made significant gains in Shabwah. The Giants’ forces captured the district centers of Usaylan, Bayhan and Ain. However, since then they have not been able to make any real gains despite receiving close air support from the Saudi-led coalition.
The fierce resistance of Houthi forces could eventually force the Saudi-led coalition to halt its offensive in Shabwah and Ma’rib.

it is better to retreat and temporarily give up territory so as to be able to inflict much heavier losses on the enemy and lose fewer on your own side as the Houthis are wisely doing as this war will not be won by 1 battle but by attrition over the long term.
