The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen on June 8 resumed attacks on Israel, and announced that they will block “Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea.”
In a statement, Houthi military spokesman, Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, said that the group launched a “missile barrage targeting sensitive Israeli enemy targets” in the city of Tel Aviv.
Sirens are sounding in Tel Aviv and across a wide swath of central Israel including the outskirts of Jerusalem amid the attack, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) later announcing that a single ballistic missile fired from Yemen was intercepted by air defenses.
Saree also announced that the Houthis will impose “complete and total ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, and we consider all enemy movements to be legitimate military targets.”

Second: We affirm that we will respond to escalation with escalation, and that our military operations will intensify in accordance with events, the battle, and in conjunction with the axis of jihad and resistance.
Third: We affirm the right of our people and the free peoples of our nation to confront American-Israeli aggression, and we will not stand idly by in the face of the unjust siege imposed on our people and the peoples of the axis of jihad and resistance in Palestine, Gaza, Iran, Lebanon, and Iraq,” he said in the statement.
The Houthi’s announcement came less than a day after Iran resumed strikes on Israel in response to an attack by the IDF on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut — a stronghold of Hezbollah. The two sides have been exchanging strikes since.
The escalation by the Houthis was not a surprise. Just last week, the leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, said that the group is prepared for escalation in “full coordination” with its regional allies.
The latest developments shows that the United States and Israel have very much failed to break up the Iran-led Axis of Resistance.
