Houthis Say They Shot Down Saudi Combat Drone Over Northwest Yemen

Support SouthFront

The Houthis announced late on November 30 that their Air Defense Force had shot down an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) of the Saudi-led coalition over the northwestern Yemeni province of Hajjah.

A spokesman for the Yemeni group said that the UCAV, a Chinese-made Wing Loong, was downed while it was carrying out “hostile acts” over the district of Hayran in northern Hajjah.

“The hostil warplane was targeted with a ground-to-air missile that will be revealed later,” Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari said, adding that a video of the operation will be released soon.

Developed by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, Wing Loong has a maximum range of 4,000 km and an endurance of up to 20 hours. The UCAV can be armed with air-to-surface laser-guided missiles and other types of munitions.

Earlier this week, the Houthis shot down a Saudi AH-64 Apache attack helicopter over northern Yemen. The helicopter’s pilot and gunner were both killed in the incident.

The Houthis are apparently working to further develop their air-defense capabilities, in terms of quality and quantity. The Yemen group had warned that 2020 would be the year of “air-defense.”

So 2020 will be the year of air defence! Unlike the preposterous claims typical of Coalition announcements, Ansarullah make good on what they say.

To the House of Saud – make sure you all ring in the new year with blessings of joy because 2019 is just a taste of what’s coming.

Sweet dreams

I do hope a Saudi Prince or an ex NATO merc was piloting the helicopter.

S Melanson

It may take the death of a senior member of the House of Saud to galvanize opposition in KSA to the continuing Yemen war. If the Houthis have also come to this conclusion, it will be done.

FlorianGeyer

MBS would be a welcome loss, and perhaps Prince Andrew could offer his services as a trained helicopter pilot to the Saudi forces in Yemen :)

Two birds with one stone would be most welcome in the KSA and UK ,I suspect.

Too bad. I was rather enjoying the Houthi’s 2019: Year of the Saudi Oil Infrastructure BBQ.

S Melanson

Oh I think you speak prematurely, the biggest and best BBQs are yet to come.

And how is that Aramco IPO coming along…

Andrei

Now they can do reverse engineering if are capable, or if not the Iranians/Russians they will take ownership of the drone, and they are absolutely capable to reverse engineering.. We know that Iran and Russia lacks in drone capabilities Saudi Arabia Army has money but no brains. I don’t even know why Saudi Arabia started a war against Yemen,in the first place….

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

you said it yourself, they have no brains lol

JustPassingThrough

“We know that Iran and Russia lacks in drone capabilities” really? seems it’s the CN and murikan drones that are falling down. Do you equate that to success? lol

Concrete Mike

Well in the saudi view their justification was to install the so called “un” recognised hadi government.

Problem is the yemenis know hadi is but a zionist puppet, and the people of yemen say no to hadi.

The saudis might not have learned anything, but the rest of us sure did.

I think the biggest lesson is money isnt everything, in this age of shallowness and money worship, yemen is a goodnwake up call to reality, and as a warning of what may come to us in the west. A good day to you mr Andrei, its cold today, -10 and verrryyy humid.
