On September 21, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) unveiled several new weapon systems during a large military parade that was held in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
The military parade was organized to celebrate the eighth anniversary of the Houthis takeover in Yemen, which the group refers to as the “September 21 Revolution”. The parade was attended by senior leaders of the Houthis and their allies, including the chairman of the group’s Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat.
Several ground, aviation and naval units of the Houthis took part in the parade, which was held amid a ceasefire sponsored by the United Nations. The ceasefire entered into effect on April 2 and was set to end on June 2. Nevertheless, it was extended two times, first until August 2 and then until October 2.
The Houthis showcased many of their new weapons systems during the parade, in a clear message to the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies in Yemen.
The Navy showcased three new anti-ship missiles. The first missile, dubbed Red Sea, is a variant of the Houthis’ Sair precision-guided ballistic missile, which is a scaled-down copy of the Iranian Fateh-110 missile. The medium-range missile can be equipped with radar or infrared guidance system.

The second medium-range anti-ship missile, dubbed Muhet, is a modified version of the Soviet V-750 anti-aircraft missile with an infrared homing seeker.

‘Asif is the third and largest anti-ship missile that was unveiled by the Houthis during the parade. The ballistic missile, which also appears to be a version from the Iranian Fateh 110 family, has a range of 400 kilometers and is armed with a 550 kg warhead.

The Navy also unveiled three suicide maritime drones, Tufan-1 with a 150 kg warhead and a top speed of 35 knots, Tufan-2 with a 400 kg warhead a speed of 41 knots and Tufan-3 with a 500 kg warhead and a speed of 52 knots.

Three armed assault, reconnaissance and electronic warfare boats, dubbed ‘Asif-1, 2 and 3, were also unveiled, along with a heavy combat boat dubbed Malah.

From its side, the Air Force unveiled three two drones. The first drone, dubbed Khatef-2, is a suicide drone equipped with an electro-optical system and a data link. It has a range of 35 kilometers. The second one, dubbed Mirsad-2, is a vertical take-off and landing reconnaissance drone with an endurance of eight hours.

The Wa’id suicide drone, which is copy of the Iranian Shahed-136, was also showcased. The drone has a range of up 2,500 kilometers, which makes one of the Houthis’ most advanced offensive weapons. The drone can reach targets inside Israel when launched from Yemen.

The Air Defense Force of the Houthis unveiled during the parade two of its anti-aircraft missiles; Mi’raj and Saqr. The Mi’raj is a highly-modified version of the Houthis’ Badir-P1 precision-guided missiles. The missile can be equipped with an infrared or a radar guidance system. On the other side, the Saqr appears to be a copy of the mysterious Iranian 358 missile. The Houthis said that the missile has a top range of 100 kilometers.

Two infrared\electro-optical aerial detection systems, Sadiq with a range of 40 kilometers and Haidar with a range of 50 kilometers, were also unveiled.

The Houthis Missile Force unveiled several new precision-guided ballistic missiles. The Badir-2 and 3 were showcased during the parade, along with a fourth-generation missile of the Badir family, dubbed Hatm. The specifications of the missiles were not revealed. However, the Hatm appears to be a copy of the Iranian Kheybar-Shekan missile.

The Krar precision-guided ballistic missile, another version of the Iranian Fateh 110 family, was also showcased for the first time. The missile has a range of 300 kilometers and is armed with a 500 kg warhead.

The Houthis also unveiled the Falq “long-range” ballistic missile. The group said that the missile is armed with a cluster warhead, without providing any further details.

Another missile that was unveiled during the parade was the Quds-3 “long-range” cruise missile. The missile was described as “maneuverable” and “stealthy”. The specifications of the missile were not revealed, however.

Finally, the Houthis’ Armed Forces revealed a new light armored vehicle, dubbed Hani. The group said that the vehicle is fast and highly maneuverable. It can be also armed with heavy machine guns.

The Houthis’ growing military capabilities highlights the complete failure of the Saudi-led coalition’s blockade on Yemen. Even with direct support from the United State Navy 6th Fleet, the coalition has failed to cut the supply lines of the group, which is backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The parade in Sanaa was not a celebration, but rather a message from the Houthis to the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies in Yemen. The group is apparently trying to deter Saudi Arabia in order to maintain the ceasefire in Yemen.

This is the sort of brilliant creativity that should be working in tandem as beta-team alongside the orthodox more rigid Russian operations. The lesson should be noted here by Shoigu and company; you can take old stockpiles of antiquating soviet stock missiles (such Kh-28), crudely retrofit them for ground launch (adding gps guidance), and rain down utter denazification on lower precision targets. With better range than even their biggest howitzers, and usually far better effectiveness than unguided mlrs.
The fuel system on the Kh-28 is a royal pita, but that’s why you’d have a tiny number of specialist ground units running these.
