Photos of an infantry fighting vehicle of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) were published online on August 2. As reported, the vehicle is a part of the 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Regiment, that is located at the southern part of contact line with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The vehicles of the DPR unit are distinguished by its unusually high area of additional protection, made of a rubber-rope conveyor belt.

Side and front skirts, as well as bulwarks cover the entire chassis, almost reaching the ground. The solid protection has even required manufacturing of special steps to board the vehicle.

Turrets are also closed in the front and rear parts of the vehicle.

There are also shields that cover the sides of the vehicle’s body. These shields cover the loopholes for firing, but the authors of the upgrade, apparently, do not consider this a serious shortcoming.

The 9th Separate Motorized Rifle Regiment approached the process of the vehicles’ refinement with the utmost meticulousness, hung their vehicles with the maximum amount of additional protection.

Thats how You do, if You have no money. Look like little more protection for machinegun fire. too Thin armor against any grenades. Nice done – might save a life or two now and then. Could make someone feeling more safe, than they are – but make more self confidence.

I`m only an amateur kind of expert in WW2 and a little more – I`ll give it +++ of 5.

Think You cant give it more armor. Then it will be too heavy to drive and use too musch fuel too.

Most missiles use HEAT warheads, that creates a jet of molten metal to penetrate armor. While the thin armor can be easily penetrated, it creates an additional barrier on top of the actual vehicle armor. Thus it is hoped that most of the energy and molten jet will be wasted on the cheap armor. There is a small space between the cheap armor and the actual vehicle armor. Because of dynamics, the molten jet loses shape, and again energy is lost. Of course it is not foolproof, but every little bit helps.
