Photos of one of the most unusual modification of the T-72 tank, spotted on the territory of Syria, have been published in social networks. Reportedly, the tank is in service of the 4th Armored Division. The T-72 was ‘modified’ with additional protective equipment and devices. In particular, the photo shows that the tank turret is sheathed with additional armor shields on 360 degrees.
In addition, armored shields of large area with additional relief in the form of anti-cumulative gratings cover sides of the tank.
The front part of the tank is equipped with a metal beam, which allows to overcome barriers easier. According to Syrian sources, the extended rear part of the T-72 increases the length of the tank of about 90 cm. The additional protection and the function to overcome barriers plays an important role in conditions of warfare in the urban area.
The first reports on using of this tank by the Syrian Army appeared in the SyrianMilitaryCap’s Twitter account, which reports about course of the military operation on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The same microblog reported that terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group in Deir ez-Zor have received the US-made TOW anti-tank missile systems.
