Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) claimed on June 19 that its air-defense units had hit a Syrian warplane over the southern Idlib countryside.
“A warplane of the criminal regime, of the L-39 type, was damaged in the airspace of Idlib’s southern countryside after being targeted by an anti-aircraft company,” a military source in HTS told the terrorist group’s main news network Iba’a.
The Aero L-39 Albatros is a Czechoslovakian high-performance jet trainer with offensive capabilities. The SyAAF has been using this type of warplanes in close air support and ground attack missions since 2012.
In a desperate attempt to confirm its claims, HTS released a one minute video showing its fighters opening fire from a pickup- mounted ZU-23-2 23 mm anti-aircraft twin-barreled auto cannon. The video didn’t show any warplanes, or any aerial object being hit.
Several sources in the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) denied HTS claims, and told SouthFront that no warplane was hit over Greater Idlib on June 19.
HTS’ false claims were likely nothing but a propaganda stunt to raise the low morale of its fighters and supporters. Two days earlier, the terrorist group and its allies suffered from heavy losses during a failed attack in northern Hama.
Syrian aeronautical engineers should have to use tablets with 4K or HD serveliance cameras in fighter jets to locate targets.
Gdd
More likely to have hit a RQ-4.
i cant really understand this. Russians dominate the Syrian airspace. they have drones that can locate everything on the ground. and still after all these years of conflict HTS and other puppets can launch sudden assaults including tanks heavy mobile artillery units etc. how is this possible.? first priority, clear the ground. have drones flying 24/7 and search for opportunity targets. even if they arent armed they can send a single aircraft and send them to meet the virgins. every now and then we have heavy weapons shelling Russian positions not mortars but rockets .how is this possible…….very disappointed.
They didn’t even have the camera pointed at the target… faaaake.
