On October 16 afternoon, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) carried out a series of precision artillery strikes on the border town of Saramada in the northwestern region of Greater Idlib.
The strikes targeted HTS’ main police station and several other positions of the terrorist group in Saramada, which is located in the northern Idlib countryside. The town is known to be a stronghold the terrorist group and an economic hub of its political front, the so-called Salvation Government.
According to Syrian sources in Greater Idlib, four people were killed and at least 13 others were wounded as a result of the SAA’s strikes.

HTS’ police chief in Saramada Adnan Abdelhamid Jum’aa and Saad Eddine Berry, an interrogator of the terrorist group, were reportedly among those killed in the strikes. Furthermore, Syrian pro-government sources claimed that most of the wounded were fighters or policemen of HTS.
The precision artillery strikes were reportedly carried out with Russian-made 2K25 Krasnopol laser-guided 152 mm artillery rounds.
The real target of the strikes may have been HTS leader Abu Mohamad al-Julani who was allegedly spotted in the nearby town of Armanāz a few hours earlier.
The SAA and its allies, mainly the Russian Aerospace Forces, carried out several strikes on military, security and economic targets of HTS in Saramada in the last two years.
The new strikes were likely a response to the repeated ceasefire violations by HTS and its allies. The SAA and its allies are now preparing to launch a ground operation in Greater Idlib against the terrorist group.
