IDF General Claims Israeli Air Force Will Feel No Difference If Syria Uses S-300

S-300 air defense systems suppiled by Russia to the Syrian Armed Forces is not a real threat for the Israeli Air Force. The Israeli military and political leadership is not concerned. So, they have been repeating this since the end of September. On Ocotber 29, the Russian state-run news agency Sputnik released The Sputnik article is below (source):

IDF General Claims Israeli Air Force Will Feel No Difference If Syria Uses S-300

Israeli forces have no plans to target Russian-made S-300 air defense systems in Syria if the Syrian army uses them in a way that poses no threat to Israel, former Israeli deputy chief of staff and ex-head of the National Security Council Gen. Uzi Dayan told Sputnik in an interview.

“I hope very much that Syria will not misuse these missiles [S-300], because if Syria tries to intercept Israeli aircraft or fighter [jets], we will have to respond. It has already happened and it is not going to be different even if S-300 are involved. We are not going to initiate any attacks on these weapons but at the same time, these weapons do not have any immunity. We hope very much that the coordination between Israel and Russia will continue… We hope that Syrians will not make silly mistakes like it was done with the Ilyushin affair,” Dayan said.

He considers Russia’s decision to deliver S-300 systems to Syria after the incident with the Il-20 to have been inappropriate.

On October 2, Moscow completed its deliveries of S-300 systems to Damascus in a bid to increase the safety of the Russian troops deployed in the Middle Eastern country. The air defense upgrade was announced after a Russian Ilyushin Il-20 military plane was downed on September 17 by a missile launched by a Syrian S-200 air defense system targeting Israeli F-16 jets that were carrying out airstrikes in Latakia. The Russian Defense Ministry has blamed the crash on the Israeli Air Force, claiming that the Israeli jets used the Russian aircraft as a shield against Syrian air defense systems.

The Il-20 crash claimed the lives of 15 Russian troops. Israel has refuted the accusations and insisted that Moscow was warned about the air operation in a timely manner.

Israel-Iran Armed Confrontation

Speaking about the possibility of a military confrontation with Iran, Uzi Dayan told Sputnik that Israel would consider deterring Tehran only as a last option.

“If Iran continues to build an outpost in Syria, Israel will not be able to accept it. I do not think it will lead to a bigger clash… If Iran continues to try to achieve a nuclear capability, we think that Iran should be stopped. It is better to do it with sanctions, diplomatic efforts… boycotting the oil of Iran… We should continue to put pressure on Iran… Can Israel stop Iran? The answer is ‘Yes’ but we want to use it [military means] only as the last choice… Iran can be deterred but you do not deter a country like Iran with an ’empty gun,'” Dayan said.

According to Dayan, Israel does not support the Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), because the agreement only “freezes the situation” and “does not take Iran backward” from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Dayan also called Trump’s policy on Iran “right.”

Trump’s Withdrawal From Iran Nuclear Deal

The remark referred to Washington’s decision, announced in May, to withdraw from the JCPOA, which stipulated the gradual lifting of sanctions on Iran in exchange for Tehran maintaining the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. Commenting on the decision, US President Donald Trump stated that he expected to negotiate a better and fairer deal with Iran. After withdrawing from the JCPOA, Washington has started to reimpose its sanctions against Iran. The first round of the US restrictions came into force in August, while the next package, set to target Iran’s oil sector, among others, is scheduled for November 5. More sanctions are expected to follow.

SG

So idiot you general, why has the ITF lessened its bombing sorties over Syria?

Derapage

I have noticed that IAF does usually strike Syrian targets on first days of the month so let’s see if they will attack between 1 to 6 november.

slayern2

Perhaps they are too busy killing Palestinians…. they should really focUS on one genocide at a time.

stary ujo

So , Israeli can start to attack ! Dead heros !

SG

Perhaps they’ll be trying out anti-radiation missiles made by Lockheed in the near future? The S-300PMs transferred to Syria will have been upgraded to S-300PMU-2 by then.

https://southfront.org/russian-specialists-are-converting-s-300pm-systems-delivered-to-syria-into-s-300pmu-2-favorit/

stary ujo

They had anti-radar missiles Harm .But Israeli dont know what work S-300…is this active system , with radiation or passive system , similar to Tamara or Vera ,czech invent !?

SG

In theory, they’re supposed to confuse enemy radar systems and take out targeted SAM batteries.

stary ujo

Sam batteries will under cover S-300 ! We will to see , if Russians go to hard confrontation .Because Putin had big shouting with Generals , about agreement with Netanyahu . Now organised all generals , no Putin !

Brother Ma

I did not understand. What do you mean a big shouting with generals? Why?

stary ujo

The generals was very angry from Putin and Netanyahu agreement , what mean free attack to Syria . Israel underfucking Russians and this cost 15 officers life . They says -if you lost us , you lost all !! Putin is very soft and Russians pay big price with life of military man.Putin dont take leadership in Syria and Western prolong war .

Brother Ma

Yes. I agree Putin let down the Fifteen dead. Putin should have “accidentally “shot down an Israeli plane as well and said sorry , it was a mistake.?

R Trojson

But isn’t that the issue, Putin is incapable of shooting down Israeli planes. While Israel can easily shoot down any Russian plane. For Heavens sake Turkey shot down a Russian jet, terrorists shot down a Russian jet and then murdered the Russian pilot and finally Russia’s own S200 shot down a Russian plane killing all 15 aboard. Everybody and his brother is having their way with Russian air force.

AJ

Well its obvious the S300s will pose no threat to Israel if they dont attack the country!

Robert McMaster

The Isrealis go hysterical over the S-300 when they are NOT installed and then dismissive when they Are installed. Typical. Let’s see how long the loud mouths take to try an intervention.

H Eccles

Good point.. why make so many trips to Russian to beg Putin not to send Syrians the S300 if the S300 is of no consequence to them..

Robert McMaster

Very good point

TiredOfBsToo

I just can’t understand why Israel, which constantly attacked Syria using the excuse that Iran was everywhere in Syria where Israel hoped to help it’s terrorist allies against the Syrian army, hasn’t attacked since they cowardly hid behind the Russian plane that was shot down. More brave talk from a cowardly Zionist general which has never had to face a peer capable of fighting back. I’m anxiously awaiting these professional cowardly Zionists to attempt another air attack. I’ll celebrate each cowardly Zionist felled by those inferior S300 missiles they claim they’re not afraid of. Maybe since those advanced S300s have arrived, the Zionists just don’t see Iran’s presence in Syria anymore or maybe they’re just the pampered cowards we all believe them to be. One can view their bravery in action against the unarmed Palestinian population from the young children on up, after all, they certainly appear brave and tough when dealing with young Palestinian toddlers and school kids.

John Whitehot

Israelis are behaving hysterically and bipolar about this s300 thing. not a day passes without them dropping more senseless mumbo-jumbo.

BlueInGreen

Either this is pure Israeli hubris or somebody is pulling somebodies leg here…

BlueInGreen

I would fully support an offensive war against Israel at this point. With the US embattled at home with migrants streaming, general lawlessness, budget problems and political and societal strife. US won’t be able to adequately support Israel if it gets into a proper entanglement with Syria, Hezbollah and Iran (Russia won’t help so it’s useless to add them, they play the diplomatic role).

That Israeli lack of strategic depth and endurance in a war will lead to Israel having to concede in the next conflict. Plus the Palestinians would have to be dumb not to start a rebellion against the Israeli occupiers all across their lands and in Israel. Strike where you can and do as much damage as you can. Make life a living hell just like they did to you.

Can’t even imagine having Hamas, Hezbollah, West Bank uprising and Syria/Iran lobbing missiles and drones at you non-stop. They won’t be walking away unscathed and they sure as hell are not in a advantageous position.

Assad must stay (gr8rambino)

agree million prozentage

SPEAKER OF THE TRUTH

Absolutely. Humanity will not survive while Jews live.

Kelli Hernandez

For the world to know peace, Israel needs to be destroyed..It is filled with fascist, racist leadership and the kazharian squatters are indoctrinated sociopaths, taught to hate from cradle to grave. You cannot force sociopaths to embrace empathy, for which ZIONISM does not express. Israel is a British colonial Rothschild, Adelson, Soros et.al project..

gustavo

Yes, I agree. There is not difference, that is why there has not had any attack in Syria since S-300 is there. Where is the brain of this guy ?

SPEAKER OF THE TRUTH

Why would Syria NOT target the ISIS Air Force?

Nigel Maund

True indeed! IAF being synonomous with ISIS. I like it!

Kelli Hernandez

Israhell = LOL! It hasnt attacked because it is terrified of Russia S-300. It just wouldn’t be good business to see a Lockheed jet drop from the sky. Israhell has violated the sovereignty of its fellow countries but also has invaded the US with our Israeli occupied Congress & White House. Israhell hates anyone that exercises their sovereignty

H Eccles

Deluded Israelis talk as if nobody is aware that the outdated S200 has chased their sorry asses out of Syria.

Willing Conscience (The Truths

Even though the S-300 is unproven in real combat situations, it’s listed by both the US and NATO on their ‘highest potential threat lists’ which obviously means they think it’s a very dangerous system and completely capable of doing everything the Russians claim it can. But that’s not the only thing detering the Israelis, the media and my fellow commenters may have forgotten that the Iranians also sent the Israelis and the US a very strong message not very long ago. When the Iranians sent their SRBM’s to hit Isis targets in Syria, that were stationed just 5 km away from US special forces, it sent a very clear message to Israel and the US. No US commander [or anybody else] would allow 6 Iranian SRBM’s to approach within 50 km of his own forces, even if he was aware his own forces weren’t the intended targets. The fact the Iranians popped them in just 5 km away from the US special forces stationed nearby tells us quite a few things about the message the Iranians sent to the Israelis, with that undefendable precision strike. 1 It told them the Iranians do have SRBM’s that can travel 500 km and precisely hit their targets. 2 It also told them the Iranians now have missiles the US can’t detect or defend against even if they want to. 3 The fact the Iranians risked hitting US personnel just 5 km away tells us 2 things, it tells us the Iranians were very confident their missile would hit the right targets precisely, and not make fools of themselves, but even more importantly than that, the fact the Iranians weren’t afraid of the possible consequences if they did accidently hit the US personnel, that sent the biggest message of all. So to my way of thinking at least, that’s what that Iranian missile strike against Isis was mostly about, the fact the Iranians got to kill some Isis fighters in a retaliatory strike was just a bonus for them, the real intention was a message/warning to Israel and the US. That was a bold move in itself, the Iranians laid their cards on the table and called the Israelis bluff. Israel has nightmares about Iran having nuclear capable SRBM’s that can hit their soil with impunity, the Iranians just showed them the stuff of their nightmares, and they also said ‘what are you going to do about it”. So now the Israelis don’t just have to worry about their planes being blown out of the sky by S-300 systems, they also have to worry about Iranian retaliatory strikes against their cities. If the Iranians gave a few of these missiles and their launchers to Hezbollah, and they then secretly and successfully moved them into Syria, guess what could happen, I can. So I think there’s 2 reasons that are now making the Israelis think twice before hitting any more targets in Syria, the S-300’s and the risk of Iranian retaliation. Not that I think it will work for long, the Israelis just can’t help themselves, they’ll just go back to business as usual and do what they always do. But this time I think the Iranians will call their bluff, and they’ll use their SRBM’s to hit a few Israeli military targets in a retaliatory strike, that would the second last message they’d send to the Israelis, the last would be when the Iranians start targeting Israeli cities as well. I can imagine expert Iranian weapons technicians, working out how they can transport these new Iranian missiles to secret locations in both Syria and Lebanon, and then assemble them and have them ready for use, and all without the Israelis catching on, and that’s if they haven’t already done it. I think the Israelis should be even more worried about the Iranian SRBM’s than they are about the Russian S-300 system, the AA only takes out planes, the SRBM’s takes out chunks of cities.

gustavo

I agree but the must be worry about both (SRBM and S_300).

R Trojson

This confirms Israel has ways around S300s just like the S200s. The big question becomes will Syria target Israeli when Israel is attacking Iranian assets in Syria? The first time they do target Israel it will be all she wrote for that S300. Objective will be to get Russia committed to another billion or so replacing S300s with S400s in Syria. When Syria uses S400s against Israel they will be taken out as well. How many times will Russia spend another billion or so on Syria air defense when it is completely ineffective? Do not believe they will ever be stupid enough to shoot at US, French or UK planes. Shooting at Israeli planes turns S300s into expensive targets. The only planes they can shoot at are Russian, Iranian and Syrian planes.

Nigel Maund

No it proves no such thing! Where’s your evidence for such a huge assumption? Have you never heard of bluff in war? Obviously you have technical facts and knowldge the rest of us do not possess. Please share as we’d all like to be enlightened by this knowledge?

R Trojson

At least we can agree Israel found a way around Russia’s S200 air defense. According to Russia, Israel found a way to get Russia’s S200 to shoot down a Russian plane and send 15 body bags back home to Russia. Now you claim the S300 is the perfect air defense and will never to broken. For Heavens sake if that were true Russia would not have developed the S400. Ever heard of common sense?

Merijn

Go Home Hasbara…Go Back to Hell Aviv…

Nigel Maund

No I claimed no such thing for the S300. You’re putting words into my mouth. I said where is your technical evidence? .. and of course, as I had suspected, you have none. If Israel and NATO could circumvent the S300 system why has Russia provided it to Syria? and ,even then, the upgraded “Favorit” version? The S400 system is an altogether different upgrade with added applications. Go on youtube and search the videos for yourself. Making blind assumptions is valueless. So, in conclusion, it’s you that needs to use his common sense before writing ill informed opinion on this site?

R Trojson

We are making progress. We agree on my facts about the S200 and you admit the S300 is not a perfect air defense, it has weaknesses that can be exploited. I believe Israel has found a way around the S300 like they claim, you disagree. Fair enough, we will know the answer eventually.

Nigel Maund

Where have I admitted that there are problems with the S300? Can’t you understand the English language?… or do you systematically misconstrue what people write or say? If so, you have a pretty serious problem? Read what I said above carefully this time around?

Nigel Maund

Threats and double speak from Israel as per usual! Well, time will tell as they say. Eventually, a face off will happen and the outcome will prove interesting indeed. A great deal will be riding on it!

RichardD

Israel stopped it’s attacks before the S-300s became operational, unless there were some already in place that were already ready to go, which is possible. There is also the possibility that when the Russians activated a more advance level of electronic warfare and electronic counter measures that the IAF ran into something that they haven’t had to deal with before that compromised their planes operations to the extent that it became to risky to operate them in the new impaired environment.

Bob

The ruling Israeli right-wing Likud party, currently under Netanyahu, has staked its entire political identity on pursuing regional dominance and power (via US political and military subsidization). When that public image even remotely falters, expect all manner of unsubstantiated claims from the Israeli ruling sector.
