In the evening of April 8, a coalition of militias loyal to the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) launched a counter-attack against the advancing Libyan National Army (LNA) forces in the area of Tripoli International Airport.
According to reports, pro-GNA forces were able to re-enter the airport area and even recaptured several positions there. Another direction of the counter-attack was the area south of Swani.
On April 9, LNA units will likely focus on repelling the GNA counter-offensive and retaking the area of the airport as well as the town of Swani. In the even of the success this would allow the LNA to shorten frontline south of Tripoli.
At the same time, LNA units are also advncing east of the GNA-held Libyan capital in attempt to cut off the road likining it with the city of Misrata, which is also controlled by pro-GNA militias. It should be noted that even pro-GNA sources admit a lack of coordination among pro-GNA forces. Therefore, they are often uable to react immediately to LNA actions.
This video shows airstrikes delivered by the GNA Air Force against LNA units in the coastal area:
The airport in itself is of limited symbolic value. The road to Misrata on the other hand…….
Correct – Tripoli International has been dis-used since 2014. LNA just need to hold/block the junctions at Swani bin Adem, Gharian and Airport Roads while main force advances from Ayn Zara to Tajoura across 2nd Ring Road then cuts the coastal highway to Misrata. Once the puppet Sarraj regime is isolated from support the various militia gangs (there are over 15 at last count !) will start to crumble and surrender, one by one, Inshallah
It always makes me smile when I see the immaculate flags behind spokesmen for any NATO/US and vassals ‘ chest thumping tirades’.
All show and no knickers :)
I like to think that the American obsession with having presidents, politicians and spokesmen speak with whole walls draped with American flags is basically a sign of small dick syndrome. The need to overcompensate for something.
