The HARM only has a range of a 150km. The S-300 has twice of that, so no jet will be able to come close enough to launch it. Even if it does there is the BUK, Pantsir, Kashtan, TOR to take them out. Problem is numbers. A low number of launchers can be saturated with drones and cruise missiles. Not a problem in case of Russia with thousends of launchers. But countries with only a few dozen launchers are a different story. As NAM has showed it you need an extensive network of radar and SAM sites with at least a100 jets working in tandem to fight off large number of onslaugths. The more launchers the better.

For the Venezuelans to merely ‘be ready to defend themselves’ sounds good, but it is not enough. They need to do the very same as Iran. Iran promises the extinction of Israel should the US attack them. They should make it well known that they have acquired Kinzals and Kalibrs…whether they have or not. Venezuela need to make it VERY clear that should the US attack them for any reason what-so-ever, that the US mainland will see retribution…along with any country that gets involved. Assure the US that oil refineries in TX and Louisiana would be targeted…as well as Miami and Palm Beach. Threatening the moneyed that inhabit Florida would be a deterrent and crippling US oil production would be great for the Venezuelan economy. Hell, any attack on the US proper would wake up the American population as to what war really is.
