Russian military sources showed a knife attack filmed by a reconnaissance UAV somewhere on the Ukrainian front at night. A pair of Russian scouts is seen hiding near Ukrainian position. When a Ukrainian servicemen went out of the hideout, he was attacked by Russian with a knife. The second Russian servicemen threw a grenade into Ukrainian dugout.
Knife fighting is very rare in the modern conflicts. This weapon is useful when the attack is carried out secretly. The attack on the video likely took place somewhere on the frontlines and not in the Ukrainian rear regions. The scouts likely used the knife in order not to attract attention of Ukrainians who were sitting in the dugout. Since the scouts also used a grenade, their attack unlikely passed unnoticed by Ukrainian servicemen in other positions in the area. However, other Ukrainians could not help their comrades anymore.

a ukrop in avdeevka said they do their business inside the trench in a plastic bag and throw it out. as if they leave the trench they are spotted and killed, mostly by artillery but sometimes a drone.

“scout” is not the right term for these two soldiers. scouts, while trained in hand to hand are not going to use it unless there is no other choice. a scout’s job is to make it back so they can report. the information in their heads or cameras is worth more than the lives of a couple soldiers. they are also very hard to replace, being a trained scout is harder than you would think and often up-coming battles hinge on who’s scout’s did the best job. i was in s2.

not scouts. scouts rarely go into contact unless it’s necessary to get eyes on the recon objective or there’s a force in their path to get back home.
these are probably line infantry, given orders to take out any pickets or other targets of opportunity which can be killed without risk of immediate retaliation to the attackers.
