On April 22, locals and Syrian Arab Army (SAA) personnel intercepted another convoy of U.S. forces in the country’s northeastern region.
The locals stopped the convoy as it attempted to enter their town, Farfarah, in al-Qamishli’s countryside in northern al-Hasakah. The convoy retreated from the town’s entrance after being attacked with stones by angry locals.
Last week, a U.S. convoy was blocked by locals in the al-Qamishli countryside. Back then, U.S.-led coalition warplanes flew over the region in a show of force.
The SAA and pro-government locals in the al-Qamishli countryside have been cooperating to limit the movement of U.S. forces for several months. Some of the locals, especially Arabs, appear to be increasingly frustrated with the U.S. military presence in their region.
Around 500 U.S. troops are currently deployed in al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor. The troops’ declared task is to “guard” oil fields and counter the growing threat of ISIS.
