On March 25, Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops and locals blocked a convoy of U.S. forces that was conducting a patrol in the northern al-Hasakah countryside in northeast Syria.
According to the Syrian state TV, the incident took place near the town of Hammo, which is located to the southeast of the border city of al-Qamishli.
“The people of the town of Hammo in Qamishli, along with a checkpoint for the SAA, have again intercepted a convoy of the American occupation, consisting of 6 armored vehicles, preventing it from crossing [the town] and forcing it to withdraw,” the channel’s reporter said.
This was the second such incident this week. Two days ago, a convoy of U.S. forces was blocked in a similar manner by the locals of Hammo.
Last year, the U.S. withdrew its troops from several areas in northeast Syria, facilitating a Turkish attack on the region. The U.S, however, kept around 500 troops in al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor to “guard” oil fields there and counter ISIS.
The U.S. recent moves in northeast Syria have apparently provoked the locals. The return of the SAA to the region has also encouraged some locals to take a firm stand against the “occupation.”
