Not every new idea is practical. To drop mortars instead of firing them it has to hover over the target and so it’s not very hard to hit it (not too easy either to hit with rifles and unguided weapons, because of it’s small size).

I have no idea about the amount of noise, but it’s a helicopter so I doubt if it’s more quiet than an electric UAV of the same size (or a larger with combusting engine flying much higher) to be useful for surveillance. If it was bigger it could be used to resupply in hard to reach or dangerous areas. Maybe it can be used as a platform to develop something else.

Maybe in the future we can hit the enemy by holding bullets in our fists and punch them in the face? :D

It is very difficult to hit a small UAV with anything other than a 12 gauge shotgun, and that only within a hundred metres . . .

Have you seen the latest Kalashnikov flying shotgun? :)

Allan Greedspoon

Yes I have. It’s awesome. Should be using those against the head choppers, if they could get close enough . .

“A platform to develop something else”, yes there are a multitude of other things besides mortar shells that it could drop or deliver. Now if you built it large enough you could use it as a snap on accessory for a tank. :)

I used to be a good shot when I was young but neither I, or any of the handheld weapons I used could hit something 5 kliks away, I doubt you could see it with the naked eye at that range?

Well, for targets of opportunity this is much better than a conventional mortar. It could be say a jihadist truck in a canyon type situation. With this the video operator does everything and the response time is almost immediate. With conv. mortar you would need communications, the range finder, firing team ready etc. and even then the accuracy with the first shot just isn’t there. The target would scatter after the first shot and that would be that. So this would be very good for SAA combing through the Deir-Ezzor desert hunting down daesh or SF soldiers/insurgents trying to hide.
