In Video: Double Tap Attack Hit US Supply Convoy In Southern Iraq

File image.

Late on September 24, a double tap attack targeted a convoy moving logistic supplies and equipment for the US-led coalition in the southern Iraqi province of Dhi Qar.

Two explosive devices ripped through the convoy’s trucks as they were passing on a road near the capital of the province, the city of Nasiriyah.

Pro-Iranian Saraya Awli’a al-Dam [the Custodian of Blood Regiments] claimed responsibility for the double tap attack. The group also shared footage of the attack.

Saraya Awil’a al-Dam is one of several pro-Iranian groups which were established following the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of the Popular Mobilization Units, and Iran’s Quds Force Commander Maj. Gen. Qassim Soleimani on 3 January 2020. The group’s cells attacked several US supply convoys in different parts of Iraq in the last few months.

Another pro-Iranian group known as Islamic Resistance in Iraq – ‘Ashab al-Kahf attacked two supply convoys of the US-led coalition in the central province of Babylon on September 22.

The recent attacks on US-led coalition supply convoys in Iraq are meant to pressure Washington into withdrawing its troops from the country. However, the coalition claims that the attacks hit convoys moving military aid meant for Iraqi government forces.
