When you have been fighting for two months in a city defended by 14,000 enemy soldiers equipped to the teeth there is not a single person on the internet who knows more about fighting then the guys you just watched cross the street. Fact is if you go one at a time you still get one guy hit. If you get to the house on the other side of the street and you are one guy what do you do if you if its occupied? Storm it by yourself? This is not some SWAT tv show, you have to fight all over the city, every day for months. You can’t wait 2 minutes for every soldier to cross every street. Even if you do, they can hit you anyway.
Chunks of 3 to 4 people at a time would clearly minimise the chance of a direct hit and would mean more mobile movements, faster transitions and more than one firing position for cover could be used.
A fire fight with multiple positions would also mean pincer and clover movements from several directions could be employed. Rather than just one…as seen in this video…albeit too late and too little.
Meaning the enemy would have to aim in more directions, I.e. focus of attention would be spread out rather than focused.

I am not a military professional, but just logically it seems that this could have been avoided. First of all, the entire squad crossed the street at once, making them all a target. Thank God no others were hit. The one guy made it across and pointed his gun in the direction of the Ukrainian firing position, but he didn’t do anything. I think he could have fired to force the Ukrainian shooter(s) to take cover, allowing his comrades to cross.
Then, he finally remembers that he has a smoke grenade and throws it. Not only would that have been more useful in the beginning, but he also just stood there without firing even after the smoke grenade was thrown. The Ukrainian shooters knew what the thing was for, so they just kept firing into the smoke, making his expenditure of a smoke grenade for nothing.
Again, I’m not a soldier or even have ever been conscripted. I’m just saying that it seems this particular squad doesn’t know what they’re doing, and that’s why they paid the price.
Run across the road first, pop smoke later after someone got shot.
Maybe they should value themselves and their teammates more than a smoke grenade next time. sigh.

This is not some SWAT tv show, you have to fight all over the city, every day for months. You can’t wait 2 minutes for every soldier to cross every street. Even if you do, they can hit you anyway.

Chunks of 3 to 4 people at a time would clearly minimise the chance of a direct hit and would mean more mobile movements, faster transitions and more than one firing position for cover could be used. A fire fight with multiple positions would also mean pincer and clover movements from several directions could be employed. Rather than just one…as seen in this video…albeit too late and too little.
Meaning the enemy would have to aim in more directions, I.e. focus of attention would be spread out rather than focused.

Slow running people? That’s bullshit, sorry. They are carrying shitload of weapons, equipment, ammo, running all day over garbage streets full of debris. Yeah, I’m sure you could do better. Too close together? Perhaps. Nowhere this important in this case as you are trying to claim. Ideally they should move one by one. But then you can argue it only increase the chance to be spotted and fired upon. Fire cover? Can’t argue with that one. There should be one guy at the starting position (I guess this asshole with camera disrupted their entire group). That guy at the door moved inside so basically there is no fire cover at all. But even if they were both there, no one guarantees they could see the enemy from whatever shithole ruins. They would just fire blindly with not much difference. It was tactically stupid trying to save him and risking two more lives. Stupid but humane and understandable.

I am not a military professional, but just logically it seems that this could have been avoided. First of all, the entire squad crossed the street at once, making them all a target. Thank God no others were hit. The one guy made it across and pointed his gun in the direction of the Ukrainian firing position, but he didn’t do anything. I think he could have fired to force the Ukrainian shooter(s) to take cover, allowing his comrades to cross.
Then, he finally remembers that he has a smoke grenade and throws it. Not only would that have been more useful in the beginning, but he also just stood there without firing even after the smoke grenade was thrown. The Ukrainian shooters knew what the thing was for, so they just kept firing into the smoke, making his expenditure of a smoke grenade for nothing.
Again, I’m not a soldier or even have ever been conscripted. I’m just saying that it seems this particular squad doesn’t know what they’re doing, and that’s why they paid the price.
