Hezbollah released on February 10 video footage showing an attack on a Merkava Mk 4M main battle tank of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) that took place a day earlier.
The tank, which was deployed at al-Baghdadi site on the border with Lebanon, was targeted with what appears to be an Iranian-made Almas anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). The missile is a copy of the Israeli Spike family of ATGMs.
Just like the Spike ATGM, Almas is equipped with an electro-optical or an infrared imaging seeker. The missile has a top-attack feature, meaning it can hit its target from above as a form of plunging fire. It can also hit targets behind the line of sight.
The tank targeted by Hezbollah was uncrewed and hidden behind a barrier and a building. Still, it received a direct hit from the top.
Hezbollah also released another video showing the launch of dozens of rockets at the Kaila barracks in the Golan Heights. This was the group’s first attack on the Israeli-occupied Syrian region since the start of the ongoing confrontation on the backdrop of the war in the Gaza Strip.
The group said that “Katyusha” rockets were used in the attack. Nevertheless, the video footage suggests that the attack was carried out with Grad 122 mm rockets. Some 30 rockets were fired from southern Lebanon, according to Hebrew media.
Hezbollah ramped up attacks against the IDF in recent days in what appears to be an attempt to further pressure the Israeli leadership that made several serious threats to Lebanon and made preparations to expand ground operations in Gaza.
Despite recent escalation, Israel will not likely risk going to an all-out war with Hezbollah in Lebanon. The group’s advanced capabilities, like the Almas ATGM, are one reason why the Israeli leadership will not take such a risk. The IDF could sustain catastrophic losses in such a war.

it’s impressive that they were able to target a tank that was behind a building. youtube was buzzing about how a bradley was able to shoot up a t72 with a direct fire gun without even destroying it. for some reason, that was considered impressive. atgms and drones are the best tank killers, not apc’s.
