The Houthis announced on April 3 that they had secured new areas in the al-Ajashir desert on the border with Saudi Arabia’s Najran.
The Yemeni group’s media wing released a video showing Houthi fighters shelling and storming al-Shakiri, a key fortified position of Saudi-backed forces in al-Ajashir.
During the attack, the Houthis faced little to no resistance from Saudi-backed fighters, who fled the al-Shakiri position leaving behind their personal weapons.
The Yemeni group launched a limited ground operation in the al-Ajashir desert earlier this week. Vast parts of the desert, which is located east of the Albuqa border crossing, have been secured, so far.
The Houthis are apparently stepping up their attacks along the border with Saudi Arabia, once again. The Yemeni group’s fighters are likely attempting to drain Saudi-backed forces defending the border line.

Most westerners are ignorant and think in spatial terms of national territories, the situation is Yemen is tribal based confederation. The Zaidi Shia for 1400 years have controlled the North East and the Red Sea coast. BTW, most of southern and eastern Yemen is barren desert rocks, like like Dhofar in Oman, where I served as young aviator, a lifetime ago. So speaking in terms of geographical boundaries is meaningless, no wonder the Arabs call it Rub el Khali (Empty Quarter).

There’s a ton of interests by everyone for all kinds of reasons in Yemen, but most foreign powers are not that interested in the land, itself. The exceptions to that are secondary interests (oil speculation, Saudi pipeline/oil terminal). The U.S./Israeli interest (and most of the Saudi/UAE interest) is in the coastlines to protect, i.e., control, the water routes and ports around Yemen. Not necessarily with occupation. A ‘friendly’ puppet like Hadi will do. Actually, any obedient puppet will do as long as they hate 1) Iran, 2) Russia and 3) China (in that order).
That coastal interest includes Socotra so U.S. intel can keep an eye on the Arabian and Indian Oceans and Red Sea with our surveillance radar. UAE and the Saudis are only our placeholder Socotra bitches at the moment. Hadi whored out Socotra to the UAE in an illegal 95-year deal – enforceable by the US, of course. We (the US) will eventually build a naval base there and completely trash the island. Coming up with a map that dates before the war itself is laughable. You only took houthis old tribal land but what happened was entirely different. The Houthis as soon as they ousted the Hadi gov’t from Sana’a they controlled vast areas you can see the timeline of their map on Liveumap.
