On September 19, F-16IQ fighter jets of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) carried out a series of airstrikes against a hideout of ISIS cells in Zaghaytun Valley in the northern province of Kirkuk.

In a statement released three days later, on September 21, the official Iraqi Security Media Cell said that four terrorists were killed in the airstrikes. The bodies of the terrorists were found by a joint force from Kirkum Operations Command, the reconnaissance battalion of the Military Intelligence Directorate and military engineering units that inspected the ruins of the hideout.

The joint Iraqi force also seized four assault rifles and a number of ISIS official documents from the hideout ruins, the cell said.

The IQAF regularly targets ISIS hideouts in the western, northern, central and eastern regions of Iraq. On September 3, an airstrike destroyed a hideout of ISIS near the town of al-Dibs in Kirkuk. Several terrorists were reportedly killed in the airstrikes.

Later on September 16, a series of Iraqi airstrikes hit a hideout of ISIS in the Hamrin mountain chain in the eastern province of Diyala, killing a number of terrorists. Another wave of airstrikes hit two hideouts of the terrorist group in Kirkuk and the central province of Saladin on September 18.

Iraq announced the defeat of ISIS in 2017. Since then, the terrorist group’s cells have been waging an insurgency in different parts of the country.
