On December 28, F-16 fighter jets of the Iraqi Air Force carried out a series of airstrikes on two hideouts of ISIS cells in the area of Narin in the eastern Iraqi province of Diyala.

The Iraqi Security Media Cell said that the hideouts were uncovered thanks to information provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate, adding that at least ten terrorists were taking shelter there when the airstrikes took place. The fate of the terrorists is yet to be revealed.

The airstrikes came following a series of attacks by ISIS cells, which left several Iraqi policemen and soldiers dead or wounded.

On December 17, at least nine officers of the Iraqi Federal Police were killed and two others were wounded when their convoy was ambushed by terrorists near the northern city of Kirkuk. Later on December 21, two service members were killed and three others were wounded as a result of an attack by ISIS cells on a post of the Iraqi military’s 14th Division near the village of Butk in Kirkuk province.

“Our security units will continue their heroic work in pursuing and chasing after the defeated terrorist elements,” the Security Media Cell said in its statement.

The Iraqi military, intelligence and security forces have operating nonstop against ISIS remnants, especially in the western, nother and eastern regions of the country. Still, the terrorist group’s insurgency will not likely end in the near future.
