Late on March 14, a series of airstrikes hit a hideout of ISIS cells to the east of the town of Amerli in the central Iraqi province of Saladin.
The pinpoint airstrikes were carried out by F-16IQ fighter jets of the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF), likely using 227-kg GBU-12 Paveway II laser-guided bombs. The results of the airstrikes are yet to be revealed by the Iraqi Security Media Cell.
Iraqi government forces escalated their operations against ISIS cells this month. On March 7, IQAF fighter jets targeted a group of ISIS terrorists that was moving on Bilkanah mount in Saladin. Three terrorists were killed in the airstrikes, which were carried out based on information provided by the Iraqi National Intelligence Service.
Later on March 12, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service eliminated 22 ISIS terrorists, including senior leaders of the terrorist group, during a special operation near the town of al-Rutba in the western province of al-Anbar.
The recent operations inflicted some heavy human losses on ISIS. However, the terrorist group’s cells are still active. The group announced on March 11 via its news agency, Amaq, that its cells slaughtered a civilian near the town of Tuz Khurma in the northern province of Kirkuk.
ISIS has been waging an insurgency in Iraq since its defeat in 2017. The terrorist group is mostly active in the western, northern and eastern region.
