Late on March 20, a series of Israeli strikes targeted the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon, a well-known stronghold of Hezbollah.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it hit facilities of Hezbollah, an underground infrastructure and another was used to store rocket launchers, after identifying activity by the group there.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said that “enemy aircraft” struck “the eastern slopes of the mountain range within the town of Janta in the Bekaa,” as well as “the outskirts of the town of Taraya, west of Baalbek,” also in the east.
Four missiles were also fired at the Nabatieh area of southern Lebanon, the agency added, without reporting any casualties.
Video footage posted to social networks showed what appears to be secondary explosions after one of the strikes that targeted Bekaa.
Hezbollah initiated a heated confrontation with the IDF following the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip some 14 months ago. The group took heavy losses during the fighting. Nearly all of the group’s leadership, including its historic leader Hassan Nasrallah, was eliminated by Israel.
A ceasefire brokered by the United States last November was supposed to end all clashes on the Israeli-Lebanese border by February 18. However, the IDF continues to operate against Hezbollah under the pretext of neutralizing threats to Israel security.
The Iran-backed group, which appears to be exercising strategic patience, has so far refrained from responding to Israel’s repeated strikes in any way.

the recent agreements between russia/ iran are welcome, so far as they go. but iran should not expect too much of them. russia supported genocidal us sanctions against iran/ refused to complete bushehr, as it was contracted to do/ refused to supply s300s iran had paid for – in return for a worthless us promise (never kept) not to put missiles on russia’s border. russia will sell out iran if the price is right, and cannot be trusted. iran needs wmd for its security.
