In Video: Italian Patrol Boat Sank In Mediterranean After Engine Fire

Screen grab from Crotone News video.

On July 1, a Corrubia-class patrol boat of the Guardia di Finanza (GdF), an Italian law enforcement agency under the authority of the Minister of Economy and Finance, sank in the Mediterranean Sea after a fire.

The boat, G.94 Cappelletti, reportedly sank in the waters between Bianco and Roccella Jonica, in the province of Reggio Calabria.

The fire broke out in the engine room before spreading out. The crew abandoned the 27-meter long boat after failing to put down the fire. They were all rescued by other boats of the GdF.

Corrubia-class patrol boats are built of composite materials. The boats of this class has a range of 700 nautical miles and a top speed of 43 knots. The main armament of Corrubia-class boats is a single-barreled 30 mm Breda machine gun.

According to Crotone News, G.94 Cappelletti was patrolling the waters to intercept migrant’s boats, which began to reach Calabrian coasts in the recent days, when the fired broke out.

Officials from the Italian Ministry of the Interior in charge of migration policies expect 70,000 migrants to arrive from North Africa coastline by the end of 2021. At least 30,000 are expected to come from Libya.

Why does the new Italian navy have glass bottom boats?

So they can see the old Italian navy.

Mr.Spicklespock

China has a much bigger population still loss fewer people than India…I wonder why. Due to Covid, we have fewer Indian scammers, Thank God.

Let me tell you that the Indians who leave are the most fascist lot. Living abroad, they are all fanatic at Modi fellatio since they don’t have to endure the bastard. Not all of us are so lucky.

Peppe il Sicario

German MTU engines!!! So much for Teutonic engineering!!!!!

A.H.

And dit they recover the wreck after for rescue the 30 mm gun ?

Peppe il Sicario

To do what? They never use them anyway ’cause the Anglo-Americunts who run NATO and the EU are behind the immigrant invasion of Europe. If they had used those guns for what they were intended for and had REAL Italians serving in the armed forces, not Nato bought and paid for mercenary sell-outs, it would be an entirely different story.

Icarus Tanović

Bet they have recovered it. It is as expensive as entire speed boat.

30mm gun belongs to the fish…

Actually the Italian navy was not that bad in WWII. They were hobbled by lack of radar and a natural unwillingness to not die for Hitler, who was de facto their overDuce, but they performed, overall, better than the Kriegsmarine, except in submarine warfare. Even then they managed to infiltrate Alexandria Harbour and sink Brutish ships at anchor, something the Kriegsmarine never could.

However, I don’t see any reason an engine fire should sink a boat, unless the composite hull is as inflammable as the Brutish HMS Sheffield’s aluminium hull was at the Islas Malvinas. Which would make it very, very badly designed and constructed.
