The first video of the combat use of the old US-made 105 mm M101 howitzer by the Armed Forces of Ukraine was proudly shared by Ukrainian military sources.
In September, Lithuania announced the transfer to Ukraine of a batch of the old US-made M101 artillery systems, which were stored in the warehouse of the country’s Defense Ministry.
The 105-mm M101 is an obsolete US-made system of the World War II period. It entered the mass production back in 1941 and is still in service with the armies of some countries.
M101 howitzers could not compete even the Soviet-made D-30 howitzers which are currently used by the warring sides on the Ukrainian front lines, not to mention the other advanced larger—caliber systems.
Among the advantage of M101s are their lightness and mobility. At the same time, the maximum range of these guns is less than 11 km so they must be deployed close to their targets, what causses a big risk for Ukrainian servicemen. The power of the 105-mm howitzers is also not enough to destroy military fortifications or suppress the entrenched infantry of the enemy on the front lines.
On November 21, Lithuania refused to supply Ukrainian forces with self-propelled howitzers PzH 2000, which are in service with the Lithuanian Army. The head of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry refused to clarify the reasons for such a decision.
11 km range… Well, that’s a nice “last-seen-alive” video to send to these guys’ parents.
yup. that’s only a little over 6 miles.
This war has shown that all the fancy stuff no matter of which side was just for show. The real war is still waged will weapons not that different to ww2. Only the supporting systems and electronics make it different to use and more accurate.
But hell where are the rail guns of the us or the lazers or russia.
They’ll be rolling out the old bombards next.
NATO countries will have depleted their own stockpile of weapons. All in the cause of supporting Ukraine’s war with Russia. I;m waiting for the moment when Ukraine will be receiving American Civil War cannons. Iron Foundries will be happy for the business.
a fire battery that is well trained and practiced can do some damage with that ‘obsolete’ gun 3 shots and drive away
That’s a big “no”.
It isn’t self mobile it too slow to escape move for counter battery fire.
SO THIS old weapons are winning against mighty russia hahaha
No, they’re not. That’s the point. The Russians are ripping up the Ukrainian materiel at such a rate that the NATO vassals have to pass on their rummage sale wares.
Logic is lost on the NATO trolls and the dumb.
The Lithuanian refusal is due to the fact of exposure. To see Lithuania’s junk get eaten up by a Zircon, is just plain and stupidly Lithuanian.
Are they worth the counter fire cost? Their accuracy is questionable and were used mainly in massed barrages to be effective.
KuKraina banderastan shithole are in desperate status for weapons, after Russia destroyed aprox. 70% of theirs armors and artillery. So, every crap ww2 museum substitute can be used. Bad for the Cocalansky faggots junta that North Koreea is not on theirs side. Having enormous amounts of soviet era weapons and ammo’s is a very positive situation for Russia. Trading some high tech technologies or weapons with them will provide russians with endless koreeans military trains. And good also for Kim also who developed own ones and thus have a lot of surplus. Some researchers even said that Russia ONLY with that provisions can sustain a 3 year war with the ukroshit hohols terrorists.
Good enough to pulverize the obsolete russian army 🤣🤣🤣
Soon to be drone food…
Yea they’re not the ideal gun and it puts Ukraine at a disadvantage but a 105mm shell is still going to hurt like fuck if it lands on your head.
It might be old but it does still kill. Russia needs to destroy the head of the snake and that is Zelensky and his government. Raze Kiev and Lvov to the ground!
