On February 5 and 6, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Movement, released videos showing some of its recent attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip.
One of the videos released by the group shows its fighters blowing up an Israeli main battle tank with explosive devices and targeting several others in addition to an armored personnel carrier and a bulldozer with rocket propelled grenades to the west of the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Two other videos show a Skylark reconnaissance drone and quadcopter of the IDF which were downed and captured by Hamas fighters.
Another video shows Hamas fighters and others from the al-Quds Brigade, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, firing mortars at Israeli troops in Gaza City and nearby areas in northern Gaza during a joint operation.
Separately, the al-Quds Brigade released two videos showing its fighters firing mortars and rockets at IDF gatherings in central Gaza and in the al-Amal neighborhood in Khan Younis.
The IDF announced the death of two service members on February 6 and 7, the deputy commander of the Combat Engineering Corps’ 601st Battalion and a soldier from the 551st Reserve Paratroopers Brigade chief’s forward command team.
Their death has brought the toll of Israeli troops since the start of ground operations in Gaza to 227. More than 1,200 others have been reportedly wounded, so far.
After withdrawing from large parts of northern Gaza earlier this year, the IDF is now slowing down operations in the central and southern parts of the Strip.
Indirect talks with Hamas saw major progress in recent days, according to several reports. An Israeli agreement with the group appears to be near. The agreement will reportedly include several phases, that starts with a lengthy ceasefire, and will later include the release of dozens of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. Such an agreement will without a doubt be in favor of Hamas.
