The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) continues to sustain losses in the Gaza Strip as a result of hit-and-run attacks by the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions.
On December 6, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, released video footage showing its fighters targeting Israeli main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers (APC), bulldozers and even troops using rocket-propelled grenades. The attacks took place in the Gaza City neighborhood of Tuffah and Daraj in the northern part of the Strip.
The next day, the group released a video showing an attack with a rocket-propelled grenade on an IDF APC in the al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.
Another video released al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, on January 6 showed mortar attacks against IDF gatherings to the east of the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
It’s worth noting that the IDF acknowledged the death of an officer on January 6. He was identified as Lieutenant Colonel Roee Yohay Yosef Mordechay, a senior commander at the Nahal Brigade’s training base.
Mordechay was appointed to be the next commander of Nahal’s 50th Battalion before he was killed. His death has brought the toll of Israeli troops killed since the start of ground operations in Gaza to 176. Hundreds others were reportedly wounded.
Despite its recent losses, the IDF continues to operate across Gaza. On January 7, it announced strikes against Hamas fighters in al-Maghazi and the nearby refugee camp of al-Bureij in the central part of the Strip. It also said the 646th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade had located a weapons manufacturing plant, and nearby, two tunnel shafts there.
And in the city of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza, troops from the Nahal Brigade located and destroyed rocket launchers during a raid, according to the IDF.

In recent weeks, the IDF withdrew most of its troops from northern Gaza, shifting focus to the central and southern parts of the Strip. However, it continues to face fierce resistance from Hamas and other factions. No much progress was reported by Israel in the last few days.

oddly enough, i can’t watch most of the videos. the violence is too much for me. i can read about these wars, but the videos i find upsetting. go figure.
