Russian forces have uncovered and destroyed a large underground bunker of ISIS cells in central Syria, the Zvezda TV reported on May 11.
The bunker, located near the ancient city of Palmyra in eastern Homs, was blown up by Russian military engineer and Syrian soldiers. A total of 2,5 tons of TNT were used to completely destroy the large underground structure.
According to Zvezda, the bunker was equipped with ventilation and drainage systems as well as depots for weapons and fuel. It had two exits to different slopes of the mountain and rooms with monitors, where middle-level leaders of ISIS possibly lived.
“During the inspection of the cave, foreign-made weapons and ammunition used by militants were found including American-made weapons, an M-60 machine gun, two M-16 rifles as well as 7.62 and 5.56 mm caliber ammunition for them,” said a representative of the Russian Armed Forces grouping in Syria.
The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies, including Russian forces, have been operating nonstop against ISIS cells in central Syria for a few months now. 338 terrorists have been eliminated since April 23 only.
Recently, the Analytical Network News Agency, ANNA, shared a number of photos showing terrorists killed in central Syria by the al-Quds Brigade. The Palestinian-led group has been operating against ISIS cells for well over a year.
