On October 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that two Ukrainian suicide drones were shot down over the Black Sea near the Krasnodar Region.
“At about 7:10 a.m Moscow time, the Russian military foiled another attempt of the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on Russian facilities with the use of drones,” the ministry said in a statement. “Two unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed by the Russian Air Defense Troops on duty over the waters of the Black Sea near the coast of the Krasnodar Region.”
Local Telegram channels, citing local residents, claimed that there were between five and six explosions, with the lights allegedly going out in a number of buildings.
Meanwhile, a video shared on social media showed a large blast right over the sea after the successful interception of one of the drones.
There were no casualties or damage in the resort city of Sochi as a result of the Ukrainian attack attempt, Mayor Alexey Kopaigorodsky said on his Telegram channel.
“The airport and all systems of the resort city are working normally. The situation is under control of the operational headquarters. Thanks to all our defense blocks. There is no threat to the life and health of residents and guests, everything is calm in the resort,” he added.
The Kiev regime stepped up drone and missile attacks on Russian territory in recent weeks in what appears to be an attempt to make up for the failure of its counteroffensive.
Over the past week, Russian air defense intercepted 218 drones, 19 HIMARS, Olkha, and Uragan projectiles, seven JDAM aerial guided bombs, 12 HARM anti-radiation missiles as well as two Neptune anti-ship missiles inside and outside the special military operation zone, according to the Russian MoD. The aviation of the Balck Sea Fleet also destroyed a naval suicide drone.
