The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) continue to strike high-value military targets of Kiev forces throughout Ukraine with pinpoint accuracy.
On June 5, the Russian Ministry of Defense shared footage showing recent pinpoint strikes on what was said to be the Darnytsia car repair plant in the eastern part of the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. A number of T-72 battle tanks which were recently supplied by Kiev’s allies were hidden inside the plant.
The ministry said that the plant was targeted with air-launched, precision-guided, long-range missiles, without elaborating.
Unofficial Russian sources speculated that Kh-59 missiles were used in the strikes, with some even claiming that the footage were from the electro-optical seeker of the newest Kh-59MK2.
The modern versions of the Kh-59 family of missiles have a range of up to 290 kilometers. The missile navigates towards its target with an [INS] inertial navigation system supported by a GLONASS satellite navigation system. For terminal guidance, the missile is equipped with an elector-optical seeker with automatic target recognition.
The newest Kh-59MK2 version features an all-new stealth design that also allows the missile to be loaded in the internal bays of the Su-57, Russia’s first stealthy fighter jet.
The VKS has been using Kh-59 missiles to strike well-protected, high-value targets of Kiev forces since the beginning of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. These precision-guided missiles are cheaper compared to heavier cruise and ballistic missiles.
The remaining air defenses of Kiev forces have not been able to thwart any of the VKS’s recent long-range missile strikes on Ukraine.
