The Russian military has destroyed an American-made M142 HIMARS multiple rocket launchers of Kiev forces in the Kursk direction using an Iskander-M tactical ballistic missile.
Video footage of the strike was released by Russian media on August 15. The footage shows the launcher firing two rockets before fleeing to hide in a forested area to the southeast of the settlement of Marine in the Ukrainian region of Sumy, which borders Kursk. The launcher is then struck by an Iskander-M.
The pinpoint missile strike destroyed the launcher, rockets prepared for reload as well as two security vehicles which were guarding the hideout.
The United States has supplied Kiev forces with at least 39 HIMARS launchers since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine. Germany promised to buy three more for Kiev forces earlier this year.
These launchers are typically armed with M30/M31 series GMLRS GPS-guided rockets, which have a range of more than 70 kilometers, or MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles with a range between 165 and 300 kilometers depending on the version.
The Russian military has already damaged or destroyed many of Ukraine’s HIMARS launchers using precision-guided weapons, like the Iskander-M. In addition, Russian air defense and electronic warfare means have significantly reduced the effectiveness of the system.
Kiev forces backed by foreign mercenaries launched their surprise attack in Kursk on August 6. Weapons supplied by the U.S. and other Western allies of the Kiev regime, like the HIMARS, were heavily used, which indicates that the attack was orchestrated with help from NATO.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 2,640 Ukrainian troops, 37 tanks, 32 armored personnel carriers, 23 infantry fighting vehicles, 206 armored fighting vehicles, 96 motor vehicles, four air defense systems, three multiple rocket launchers, 20 field artillery guns, and three electronic warfare stations have been naturalized since the start of the attack on Kursk.
