The Russian military has destroyed a communication station for Bayraktar TB2 combat drones that was deployed by Ukrainian forces near the front in Kherson.
A video released on July 28 shows the communication station receiving a direct hit from a Russian Lancet loitering munition, which was reportedly launched by the Russian Airborne Forces. The pinpoint strike destroyed the station and set it on fire.
The Lancet, which was developed by the ZALA Aero Group, is equipped with an elector-optical system that allows it to detect, track and lock on static and moving targets.
An improves version of the Lancet-3, that features a more aerodynamic design with extended X-shaped wings, was used to target the Ukrainian communication station. This version has a longer range and endurance than the original Lancet-3, which has a range of 40 kilometers and an endurance of up to 40 minutes only.
Ukraine purchased dozens of Bayraktar TB2 drones from Turkey’s Baykar over the last few years. More drones were delivered to Kiev after the beginning of the Russian special military operation last February. Most of these drones have been already shot down by Russian air defenses.

The communication station destroyed by the Lancet loitering munition near Kherson front is meant to act as a router between Bayraktar TB2 drones and their ground control stations. The main purpose of the station is to expand the operational range of the drones, which is limited to 300 kilometers.
The strike on the station is an example of how loitering munitions can be used to destroyed high-value military targets from a stand-off distance with high-precision.

There are only 3 bridges connecting the Cherson bridgehead with the rest of Russia. 2 to the north of Cherson of which 1 is destroyed and 1 is damaged and the other bridge at Novo Kakhovka which was targeted a while back. In that regard, the Russians in the Cherson bridgehead are in danger of being cut off from the rest of the Russian Forces. If an extremely strong and swift Ukrainian/NATO attack comes and the other 2 bridges are destroyed or take, the Russians, if they can swim successfully to the other side of the Dnepr, will lose all the heavy equipment except small arms. That is the immediate danger they are in.
The Ukrainians have broadcasted what their plans have been for months so if the Russians haven’t prepared a defense, then it’s their fault. I’m hoping that their defense is actually a wedged counter offensive on the flanks of the Ukranian “offensive” thus ensnaring the entire army. If the Ukrainians are successful with a ground offensive, then what the US press is reporting about the Russians being over extended and out of supplies will be proven true, if not, it’ll be proven false.

From what I heard, the most severe of the damage was already repaired over the night. It is interesting how quickly the Russian engineers are able to patch up bridges. In any case, the Ukrainians realize that if they don’t destroy all the bridges soon,the Russians will likely begin a souther offensive sometime next month or possibly as late as September. If Bakhmut comes under Russsian control in the upcoming weeks (a strong possibility now as the Ukrainians are withdrawing due to lack of support, poor logistics, and low moral on this part of the front) the whole Donbass front would be severely threatened and likely lead to several collapses and some major pushes by the Russians. This would in turn cause the Ukrainians to pull forces to this region in an attempt to stabilize or slow a Russian advance, or withdrawal completely and give up land the government said they wouldn’t give up no matter the cost. If the Ukrainians pull troops to the Donbass, they would have to pull from the south, as this is the only region where sufficient troop numbers are stationed.
Hard to invade when you destroy the means of doing it.

Ukrainian forces just retook two more towns near Kherson. They’re only 30 miles outside of the city. Now that all the bridges have been destroyed and the supplies lines have been cut off the shitty Russian army in Kherson is now almost fully encircled.
