The Russian military destroyed yet another Soviet-made S-300PS long-range air defense system of Kiev forces, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced on June 28.
In a statement, the ministry said that the system, which was deployed near the settlement of Velikodolinskoye in the Odessa region, was targeted with an Iskander missile. Video footage released by the ministry confirms that the strike destroyed Two 5N63S fire control radars of the system, one of which was deployed on a 40V6M semi-mobile mast, as well as a command and control vehicle.
Other Russian news sources reported that as many as 15 air defense officers and specialists of Kiev forces were killed in the missile strike.
Kiev forces had around 100 S-300P, S-300PT, S-300PS and S-300V1 batteries in service prior to the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago. The country received a single S-300PMU battery from Slovakia in the very first few months of the operation.
Most of these S-300 systems have also been already destroyed, damaged or captured by the Russian military. Due to this, Ukraine’s long-range air defense capabilities deteriorated in a very serious way.
It’s worth noting that the Russian military stepped up suppression of enemy air defenses operations in the last few months, damaging or destroying dozens of Ukrainian radar and air defense systems, including ones recently supplied by the West.

i find it amazing that such old weapons still work and pose a threat. what chemicals are stable in those rockets for that long?
i guess the same could be said for the f 16 which is coming up to it’s 50th year design wise.
not so stable, you know aa missiles are frequently causing damage in cities, because no proper technical maintenance for decades. factory warranty for safe use of many aa missiles are 10-15 years, then you need to choose some from stock and launch them to prolong terms for 10 more years. all of these s-300 except some batteries from slovakia were produced before 1991, so you can easily calculate how many times they passed guarantee tests and repair.
