On March 12, forces of the Russian Military Police continued conducting patrols along the M5 highway near the town of Saraqib in eastern Idlib. Earlier in March, the Turkish Army and al-Qaeda-linked militants tried to capture this strategic town located on the crossroad of the M4 and M5 highways, but lost the battle for the area to the Syrian Army and were forced to retreat. After this, units of the Russian Military Police deloyed there.
