Several Police officers were wounded in the attack. The Magen David Adom ambulance service said its medics treated two men in their 20s in serious condition, and a 45-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman who were moderately hurt. They were all taken to the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in the city. Five others were taken to the hospital to be treated for shock.
The gunmen were reportedly Arab Israelis from the Wadi Ara valley. Israeli media reports said that the gunmen were affiliated with ISIS. One of them was arrested in 2016 after attempting to join the terrorist group, and the second is his cousin.
Unverified footage showing the two gunmen embracing in front of an ISIS flag before the attack was shared by Israeli sources.
Following the attack in Hadera, the Israeli Defense Forces deployed four additional battalions in the Western Bank to tighten security.
The attack was praised by several Palestinian parties, including the Hamas Movement and the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine. This raises some questions about the allegations that the two gunmen were affiliated by ISIS. The terrorist group’s presence in Israel is minimal. The group is not also known to be active in Palestinian areas.
The deadly attack could to tensions in the Western Bank between local Palestinians and Israeli forces, who will impose additional security measures.
