On February 29, Turkish armed drones destroyed two self-propelled howitzers of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in southern Idlib.
The targeted howitzers were identified as truck-mounted 130 mm M-46s. This type of howitzers is locally manufactured in Syria by the Defense Factories Corporation (DFC).
Several other Turkish drone strikes were reported, especially in the Zawiya Mountain in southern Idlib. Turkish-backed militants are now carrying out a large-scale attack on the SAA’s newly-established positions in the region.
According to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), Turkish drone strikes claimed the lives of 26 Syrian service members in the last few hours.
In the last few days, Turkish drones inflicted catastrophic losses on the SAA and its allies. Dozens of military vehicles were destroyed. On February 28 only, more than 50 pro-government fighters, including ten personnel of Hezbollah, were reportedly killed.
The Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the Syrian Air Defense Forces (SyAADF), which maintain sufficient capabilities, are yet to take any action against Turkish drones. The reasons remain unknown, as for now.

Rumours gather weight that Russia has disabled the Syrian radar system and therefore they are blind to Turkish drones and missiles. Some suggesting that it was a deal to keep Turkey onboard without weakening Erdogan, but Turkey went beyond what was agreed and went after Hezbollah and Syrian troops. How accurate this is will only be verified in the coming days and weeks

Yeah, it is scary. Psychologically it makes sense, it is human to want to believe what fits ones world view.

I just checked and there are only one or two Russian airstrikes against Saraqib currently, and most of the SAA are trapped in Idlib by the cut off highway, and there are no massive reinforcements anywhere to the east or south of Aleppo anyway, so unless they can retake the highway, no reinforements will come in massive numbers.

OK – I vaguely remember someone using a few of these in al Suwaydah. They looked like something ISIS welded together, but they belonged to the SAA. The gun only fires a few degrees either side of forward – right over the truck’s cab – for stability. The cab just needs a shell for protection, so there ya go. 130mm has a long range. Syria can’t have had more than a handful of these in their inventory. Maybe five(?) total used in Suwaydah in 2017.

Has anyone stop to think for a moment the reason why Syrian air defenses don’t shoot down Turkish drones is because there is so much air traffic from Syrian and Russian Airforce jets and drones it’s hard to tell on radar which drones are friendly because there so frequently used by all sides this far in the war. This is the reason I think most Turkish drones are not shot down.
Turkey uses ASELSAN KORAL and REDET Electronic warfare Systems to blind radars and communications. Why do you think Israel is able to play games with Syrian Air Defence in Damascus (were the best Syrian Systems are located)???

If the drone strikes are actually happening as the Turks claim. This is the least plausible explanation. But it also can’t be ruled out.
