In Video: Ukrainian Bayraktar TB2 Documents Its Own Defeat By Russian Air Defenses

On January 29, a video documenting the downing of a Ukrainian Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 combat drone by Russian air defenses surfaced online.

The video, which shows the Bayraktar TB2 being hit by the shrapnel of an unidentified anti-aircraft missile, was taken by the drone’s own tail cam. It was either intercepted by electronic warfare means, or recovered by specialists from the wreckage of the drone.

The Bayraktar TB2 has an endurance of up to 24 hours and an operational range of less than 300 kilometers. The drone’s main armament is the laser-guided MAM-C and MAM-L munitions made by Turkey’s Roketsan.

Ukraine purchased dozens of Bayraktar TB2s from the Turkish manufacturer, Baykar, over the last few years. More drones were delivered to Kiev after the beginning of the Russian special military operation last year. The most recent batch, which consisted of two drones, was reportedly delivered to Kiev forces earlier this month.

The Bayraktar TB2 failed to perform well in Ukraine. Most of the country’s drones have already been shot down by Russian air defenses.

The relatively large size, low speed and poor maneuverability of Bayraktar TB2 drones made them easy targets for Russian short and medium-range air defense systems like the Pantsir-S1, the Tor-M2 and the Buk-M3. Electronic warfare systems were also used to jam and disrupt the drone’s communication links.

And now put the AD to protect the city of Donezk. What you should have done 8 years ago.

Yo I want everyone to click on this link and watch a video on Odysee titled: SU25 being shot down from a Pilot Perspective https://odysee.com/@Velyaminov:a/Russian-Su-25

Its the most epic f*** video I ever seen in my life, its something that you can make a movie out of, I can picture this being like the Russian Version of the American Movie: Behind Enemy Lines!

I can’t wait to hear what you guys say about this!

Great job, Ihor. Finding a Ukrainian success is like looking for a needle in a haystack, so hats off to your diligent work.

Ghost of Moscow

I didn’t post the link to start a War back and forth on who is winning, I posted the link to say how f*** epic that was! One moment he’s flying the next moment he’s ejecting and tumbling down to earth, while his plane in the background hits the ground, and go up in a ball of flames: It just reminds me so much of Behind Enemy Lines!

Boba Lazarević

What good is a 24-hour endurance if the range is only 300 km?

Battlefield loitering I guess.

Loitering times

Boba Lazarević

Yes, but doesn’t loitering also count into the range?

Phil_28

No. Range refers to the maximum limit of its radio. It’s a drone. It needs to be in communication.

CentralAsianStudies

Range isn’t everything. Imagine having an eye in the sky over an area for 24 hours. That is 24hours of continuous surveillance of any area or target. That is the use of the 24 hour endurance. Now, whether or not this drone can manage to survive that long is a different question. Remember, up against an enemy without air defenses, having the ability to stay airborne for long periods of time his valuable in collecting information.

Armin

These Turkish drones were much hyped. I remember two years ago a Libyan documentary, then, Erdogan some time before, had decided to give the government of Tripoli some Bayraktar, and had signed them with black marker on the wings. Well after a month the Libyans of Benghazi showed the wreckage of one of these drones with the autograph, which had been shot down. A collector’s item.

The Bayraktars accomplished a lot in Syria, Libya, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and elsewhere. But pitting the Bayrakter against Russian air defense systems – including the S400 – is something else altogether.

Meanwhile, Russia is now unleashing its Kinzhal hypersonic missiles against Ukrainian/NATO/Nazi forces, which cannot defend against this weapon.

Russian victory is in the cards….first Kiev, then Warsaw, then on to Berlin!!

Boba Lazarević

But first they take Manhattan.

Captain Hohol

Russia does not need to conquer any further than the righteous ground of the Donbass, as that has been home to Russians for 200 some years.

Russia’s opponents to the east and west will suffer their own defeat by their own hands and if they are lucky will beg Russia for forgiveness.

And it won’t, but they do need to make sure that the Western Ukraine doesn’t fall prey to NATO. A Moscow-friendly government must be installed back and kept permanently in Kiev. If it’s not, the Western Ukraine will remain a hotbed for anti-Russian activities for decades.

Антон

There will be no such substance as the Ukraine. I hope. Any friendly government is impossible, it’s like creating a government of Bulgaria, Serbia or Romania in the 19th century entirely from janissaries. Janyssary is the part of turkish military consisted from kids taken out from their families in the Balkans and raised in Turkey as fierce punishers. That’s why the Ukraine will die sooner or later. This is the anti-Russia project, same as belorussian project in its core. Real separatism is here, not in Donbas, Donbas is unionist actually.

I hope Bulgarians, Serbians and Romanians wake up and act as Europeans.

Chop Chop

Follow the international rules-based order and balkanize Ukraine and don’t balk at it for one minute, just get the job done.

Kiev was the second capital of ancient Rus’ after Novgorod since 9th century, and even Lvov was found by russian duke, so… Plus you can find town of Rava Russkaya close to the border with Poland, the town was found in 15th century, this is earlier than constructing cities at Ural, because Malorossia (i.e. core Russia) with center in Kiev was one of historical regions of Russia since the beginning of history alongside with northern Rus’ with center in Novgorod and Zalesskaya Rus’ with centers in Vladimir and Rostov (not on Don, but northern one). Donetsk is the part of Novorossia, that’s why this is quite new city. Har’kov and Izyum are found in 17th century.

Bubbaorwell

Just destroy the city of London, Davos and Washington DC and the world will be a much better place.

Attila

😂😂😂 hurry up chicken brain. Just take it easy with tequila

Антон

I doubt that the world will be better after nuclear. Anyway these 3 cities not enough to clean whole world from globalists, need to destroy much more, but this is nuclear war for sure.

Chris Gr

That’s very correct.

Chris Gr

The Illuminati will go underground so we need underground fighters.

Anastasie

Sans oublier la maison mère satanique qui est Tel-Aviv. La tête de la pieuvre !!!

Armin

Very well! Death to the forces of evil!

The Objective

No plane has destroyed soooooooooo many Russian junk soviet equipment like the TB2. This article is just one of the feel good propaganda dished out by SF from time to time to you cheerleaders. but the whole world knows that had it not been for Putins behind-the-scenes jockeying with Erdogan, TB2 videos would be emerging on a weekly basis to show destroyed Russia equipment. It would have been worse than N-K.

Eddy

Russian air defense has proven to be more than a match for vaunted Bayraktars. These drones had significant success against Russian armor early in the war, in the northern battles. But it didn’t take long for Russian AD to figure out how to neutralize the Bayraktar.

Same is true for the American Switchblade drones. Last spring General Petraeus was on TV telling the whole world that the Switchblade would be a “game changer.” But the truth is quite the opposite. Russian AD prevailed once again.

Ironically, if either side has a drone problem, that would be the Ukrainian/NATO/Nazi side. For several consecutive months, Russian and Iranian made drones have been obliterating Ukraine’s power grid. There’s nothing the Ukrainian/NATO/Nazi side can do about it either.

KurdoTurdo

First 2 weeks of military operation almost ALL Bayraktar drones where shot down. They failed miserably avoiding Russian air defenses. Even in Syria it was reported that Bayraktar was classed as “easy target”.

A long convoy of Russian military was destroyed in what was TB2’s most bloody massacre ever.

Attila

Jealousy can kill turdo .baraktar the best you know well

Антон

Anyway it’s better to have UAVs than not have at all. It’s just great weapon against papuans without AAD or close to zero (like DAESH). But for strong AAD you must have something faster and stealthy or to use another tactics like swarm of cheap “Geraniums”.

What is the operating altitude and can they be picked up by conventional radar and knocked down with air defense artillery

There was to be a plant built in U-krankiya to assemble these things. Wonder if that’s still a go?

The Objective

It was officially launched a few days ago. Should start production by 2025.

Антон

There were two plants able to produce parts for TB-2: “Ivchenko-Progress” (rotor engine) and “Motor-Sech”. Both are bombed to the dust by RuAF already. Any construction at he Ukraine is impossible. If mad ukros say that they made new weapons, this is lies, it was assembled somewhere in Poland or Czechia. After 1991 ukros lost almost all industry of USSR and some factories from monarchist era like shipbuilding plant in Nikolaev.

“…being hit by the shrapnel of an unidentified anti-aircraft missile…”

Why unidentified, if the voice in video clearly tells it was “Buk-M3” (export name “Viking”) with up to 70 km range. It’s close to the first version of S-300 in hands of ukros. M1 – 35 km, M2 – 50 km, M3 – 70 km and 6 missiles in containers on launcher instead 4.

“The relatively large size, low speed and poor maneuverability of Bayraktar TB2 drones made them easy targets” And this is why I do not see a future for the drones that are designed to carry bombs, launch them, and return as if they were piloted aircraft. Carrying bombs forces them to become larger and slower and easier targets. The future is with suicide drones that can identify targets on their own with image recognition.
